    3. I inherited a couple of Braidwood papers found under lino there recently, here a couple of obits. Regards Marg The Braidwood Review, Tue, 6 Oct 1908 Death Notice At her residence, Lascelles - street, ANNIE relict of the late John GILLIGAN, of Araluen, aged 84 years and 5 months. Obituary The silent reaper was unusually busy last week. On Friday night Mr. Carl Baumgardner, of Major's Creek, breathed his last. The deceased had been suffering more or less for some time, but it was not until he went to Sydney some two or three months ago to enter the Hospital that he discovered that the cause of his trouble was a cancer on the liver. The Doctors then found that he was past operating upon, and he returned home. Since then he daily became worse and died on Friday night. He was 41 years of age. There was no more popular resident than Carl Baumgardner on the Creek. He was in fact every inch a man, and consequently had a large circle of friends. This fact was abundantly borne out on Sunday by the very large attendance at his funeral. There were nearly 50 vehicles in the cortege, besides a number of persons on foot. The service at the grave was impressively performed by the Rev. Father Hanrahan, of Araluen. The deceased leaves a widow and two daughters and a son, the youngest of whom is only about 12 months old. Another very old and highly esteemed resident of the district in the person of Mrs. Gilligan, relict of the late Mr. John Gilligan, of Reidsdale, died in Braidwood on Friday last at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Feeney. The deceased was in her 85th year. Prevoius to an accident she met with in Braidwood some three years ago, when she fell down and injured her hip, a more hale or hearty woman could not be found for her age. Since then she has been practically invalided. The deceased lady, who was born in Ireland, came to the district about 60 years ago, and shortly afterwards married Mr. Gilligan. They took a farm at Budawang for some years, and on the breaking out of the Araluen gold=field they removed there and opened business as hotel hotel-keepers, where they were very successful, so much so that they bought the Hawker estate at Reidsdale, some 45 years ago, to which they subsequently removed, and where Mrs. Gilligan resided ever since until she came to town some little time ago. She was always a most charitable lady, and had a host of friends. Her funeral took place on Sunday and was very numerously attended. Her remains were laid beside those of her husband in St. Bede's cemetery. She had 10 daughters, three of whom (Messrs. [sic] P. Feeney, Mead and Smith) are living, and three sons, two of whom (Messrs. John and Thomas Gilligan) survive her, to whom we desire to express our most sincere condolence in their sad bereavement. Another death occurred in Braidwood on Friday night in the person of Mrs. George, wife of Mr. Joseph George, of this town. The deceased who had passed the allotted span of three score years and ten, had been an invalid for some time. She was the mother of the well-known Ware family of this town and was highly respected by all who knew her. The funeral took place on Sunday afternoon, and was well attended. The service at the graveside was performed by the Rev. W. Ellis.
