Makenny/Makeny is a townland on the Tyrone/Fermanagh border, situated in the south/ west of the Parish of Kilskeery. No records have been found for my Moffat/Moffet/Moffit family in Makenny prior to the 1825 Tithe or for the Makenny Townland prior to this date. In 1879,an 80 year old John Moffit,was the last of eight family members to leave Makenny to immigrate to Australia. Two Moffit daughters and one Moffit son (of John and Mary (Irvine) Moffit) remained in Ireland or immigrated elsewhere. I would love to hear from descendants of other Makenny ancestors,especially from those whose families immigrated to Australia,to compare and share information about this townland.
