    3. Hi all Bill Bayley's book on Kiama Municipality (Blue Haven) mentions Crawley(s) Forest a few times. The most helpful for identification are pages 18, 23 and 54 "Early overland explorers worked south over the eastern end of Saddleback Range, known then as Nunima Range from Jamberoo through Crawler Forest, later Crawley Forest and Mt Pleasant in the valley at Gerringong" "Hoddle's survey work at Kiama followed on his marking out of a road from Bong Bong between where Bowral and Moss Vale later grew. This road ran along the tableland past Wingecarribee Swamp and where Robertson village later grew skirting the mountain precipices to drop down Noorinan and Nunuma Ranges to Crawley Forest and so north-eastward to Kiama harbour. The road was cut through sub-tropical jungle by six men and is marked on Mitchell's Map of Illawarra in 1834 though being only suitable for pack horses, it was little used and soon forgotten." "Meanwhile up the mountain between Mount Pleasant and Saddleback at Crawley Forest a Sunday school was established in 1859. W Dinning was secretary and a small chapel was built there, remaining into the new century". I don't know how familiar Jan and others on the list may be with the area, but there is a turn off from the highway south of Kiama "Mount Pleasant" or "Mt Pleasant". It would have been quite remote in 1857!
