Hi Leith, I found Abraham Jennings born Cowpastures (Camden I think it is now) no date given, married Barbara Conroy 1873 Braidwood. Their children: Eva, Hilda, Flossy, Ronald, Robert, and Jessie Jennings who m. Tom Elnus (someone's spelling was haywire). Abraham ran the Port Macquarie saw mill. Abraham's parents are: Robert Jennings born 1815 Manchester UK, died 27 Jan 1885 Tomakin married 14 Oct 1838 in Manchester to Eliza Wright born 12 Jul 1818 Uk died Nov 1889 around Braidwood somewhere(they had 11 kids) Robert Jennings parents are: Robert Jennings and Ellen Cook. There were two different Jennings families around Braidwood. This isn't my lot. No-one has found a connection. But I think there probably is further back in England ....because the stories of both lines about the family putting money in to send two men back to England to claim a fortune and being related to Sarah Jennings (who married a Churchill and was Queen Anne's assistant). After I read some things from their line, was exactly what my grandmother use to tell us. This info (and more) was passed onto me by a researcher from my line who got it from Colin Roe (you may have come across him in your research?). regards, Lyn P.S. I bought a map of Durran Durra area in a shop in Braidwood. It shows a lot more than Durran Durra, that just happens to be smack bang in the middle of the map. One side is a large arial photo that has Durran Durra, Euradux and Larbert etc. It's great, really gives a good perspective. The other side is the usual kind of map. If you are interested in buying it here are the details: ipi nsw - GDA (Geocentric Datum of Australia) Land and Property Information. Durran Durra 8827-2N Third Edition Topographic & Orthophoto Map 1:25 000. I've seen places that sell maps on-line when I've been googling. This is REALLY worthwhile for anyone interested in the area. ----- Message----- bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Leith Sent: Sunday, 27 May 2007 12:51 AM Subject: Re: [NSW-SE] Charles Snow Hi Lyn I was interested in Durran Durra - I had never heard of it but my Dad told my great uncle John Royal Reid came from there. He rode his pushbike down to Redhead to work in the sawmill there when he was a boy, ended up owning several as well as Reid and Herne hardware in Bomaderry and Sanctuary Point. He married my great aunt Wilhelmina Hoffmann from Sussex Inlet, otherwise known only as Aunty Bill! I also have a Jennings in my file (courtesy of Cathy Dunn, thank you Cathy). She was Jessie P Jennings, daughter of Abraham Jennings and Barbara Conroy, born Port Macquarie 1886, married Thomas Ellmoos (uncle of Aunty Bill) in 1908. I will bet there is a connection through my Uncle Jack Reid. I'm descended from Harriett Jennings brother Charles. But I don't know anything much, haven't had time to delve into things. The Jennings seemed to be around a area named EURADUX (turns up in google - I've seen it spelt lots of weird ways). Harriett's father (William Jennings) had land named "Spring Farm' at Durran Durra - I've seen the sign Durran Durra on the dirt road from Braidwood to Nelligen. Apparently some of the road isn't quite in the same track now, but in this section it is (so the historian at Braidwood told me). 1862 "Mr Jennings" could've been one of Harriett's three older brothers, or her father. regards, Lyn
