Mary Davis was sentenced to 7 years transportation for stealing shoes. She arrived in Australia on the John Renwick in August 1838. In August 1839 she gave birth to a daughter Margaret at the Female Factory Parammatta. Mary was issued with a Ticket of Leave in October 1842 and allowed to remain in the district of Goulburn. In July 1845 Mary was issued with her Certificate of Freedom and in August 1845 she married Neal McGarrey at St. Saviours Goulburn. The next I know of her was when she gave permission for her daughter Margaret to marry Charles Smith in May 1854. Mary was a witness at the marriage and gave her name as Mary Geary. I have been unable to find any further trace of Mary Davis/McGarrey/Geary and any help would be appreciated. Cheers Anne Stafford astaffor@smart.net.au
