Hello Jan and to the List. Regarding Five Islands Estate, I have some information coupled with a request for your assistance. Firstly, in a unpublished manuscript I am researching for my PhD, there is a reference to Henry Wyse and his brother. Henry states that when aged 14 years, he was living with his 'eldest' brother [John] at Five Islands. This would have been c. 1835. I have had difficulty in establishing why these WISE / WYSE brothers were at Five Islands. There is little doubt in my mind that they were stockmen / overseers, and I also realise that Five Islands was the name used for the general area. James Wise [another brother] had earlier associations with Charles Throsby. However, the year 1835 could be very significant. It was in that year that William WISE [another brother], overlanded the first stock to the Murray River and took up the first pastoral run on the Murray River, "Mungabareena", for Charles Hotson Ebden. As you go through your research notes and sources, would you please keep a lookout for any references to the name WISE / WYSE. Many thanks, Jennifer *********************************************************************** Jennifer Lambert Tracey BA (ANU); M App Sc (UC); Historical Archaeologist Cultural Heritage Research Centre UNIVERSITY OF CANBERRA, AUSTRALIA Tel. / Fax (02) 6295 6795 Mobile Tel. 0419 011 860 e-mail: jtracey@ozemail.com.au http://www.ozemail.com.au/~jtracey/ *********************************************************************** -----Original Message----- From: WILLIAM & JAN McELROY [mailto:JAN_BILL_McELROY@bigpond.com] Sent: Sunday, 17 January 1999 6:08 To: AUS-NSW-SE-L@rootsweb.com Subject: FIVE ISLANDS ESTATE Hi All, Information sought on the Five Island Estate (Port Kembla) - historical background, William Wentworth, leaseholders, convicts etc. Thanks, Jan McElroy ==== AUS-NSW-SE Mailing List ==== Don't forget to check the AUS-NSW-SE web pages for new updates http://www.zip.com.au/~viv/aus-nsw-se.htm
