In your posting, you mentioned NE Vic. and I wondered what areas you meant. I am particularly interested in the Ovens River/Wandiligong/Bright area re goldmining. Quite a few of my ancestors were miners there - you mention lease documents etc??? Would be interested in finding out more about this. REPLY: Hello Elizabeth - and others interested in their mining ancestors! Best Wishes for a wonderful year ahead! Now to these north-eastern Victorian goldfields! I have considerable information about the Ovens Goldfield and the early pastoral development in that area. I would be pleased to assist you in any way I can. Do you have a copy of Carole Woods [1985] definitive history "Beechworth A Titan's Field"? If not, I have a copy of that publication and several others that are relevant. We could start by looking at any references to your mining ancestors, or the areas in which they may have worked ... then take it from there. Most of the official records for Victoria are held in Melbourne at the Public Record Office, however, the local historical society in Beechworth have been very helpful to me over past years. Depends on what you can find out, before approaching, or having to go to Melbourne! If I can help let me know.
