In reply to Jennifer My uncle Mr Miller before he died gave me a copy of a book called "Adelong Glimpses at the Past" by Rosalyn J Bird (published 1976) in which there is in chapter 2 a good description of the Gold Fever that hit Adelong when a gold bearing reef was discovered in 1857. It goes on to state that by 1876 "Adelong was placed 3rd on the list of gold amounts received at the Mint. Hill End 17,299 ounces 68,042 pounds Parkes 17,342 ounces 66,120 pounds Adelong 16,432 ounces 62,580 pounds" The booklet also describes the mines and the machine used, .Don't know if this is of interests to others as I'm not sure if it is available any longer, I thought I would send this message just in case others have an interest in the Adelong area. Other chapters in the book are 1.Adelong-Canvas to Concrete 2.Gold Fever 3.Mines Machinery and Men 4.Pioneer Settlers 5.Adelong Post Office 6.The Bank of New South Wales 7. Churches in Adelong 8.
