    1. Was Dapto part of Windsor 1830s?

    3. Hi to all on the list, hope your Christmas was a happy one. Would anyone be able to tell me if Dapto in the 1830s was part of the Windsor District. My ggg grandfather, John McDermott was transported to NSW in 1832 and apparently he was sent to work for Peter Larkin on his property Galway Farm in Dapto for five years. John McDermott is mentioned in the Larkin book, Ireland to Illawarra as being a convict worker on the property. John McDermott has left a fairly good paper trail but so far there is no mention of him working on the Larkin property. After his arrival at Port Jackson in 1832 John was supposed to have been sent to Port Macquarie on the ship Isabella but his name was crossed off the list and noted beside it was written "not to be sent." From the various Colonial Secretary's correspondence on him, it would seem that he was held aboard the hulk Phoenix for a time and in 1834 was part of a road party in Port Macquarie. John McDermott received his ticket of leave in 1837 and it stated "Allowed to remain in the District of Windsor on recommendation of Port Macquarie Bench." Nowhere is there mention of him working for Peter Larkin in Dapto. Did the Windsor District encompass Dapto or (God forbid!!) do I have the wrong man?? Any assistance or ideas would be appreciated. Best wishes, Terri BRYAN bryan@nor.com.au Yamba NSW Australia Researching: Bryan, Curry/Currie, Davis, Lucas, McDermott/McDiarmid, McPherson, Machin, Norman, O'Neil, Pickford, Pomeroy, Ruthven, Ryan, Soldi, Stokes,Taylor, Valbusa, Vinco.
