    3. Hi Viv and listers, Thank you for the information from the Illawarra Pioneers re: McDermott and Larkin. I have the pre 1920 edition of this book and the John McDermott/Margaret O'Neil mentioned are my ggg grandparents. I wrote to the gentleman who submitted this entry but he is not directly connected. He has submitted many names in the book but does not reply to any mail. As you mentioned John McDermott is not listed in the 1841 census, at least not by name. There were two convict workers on the Larkin property, both holding tickets of leave and the age group fits in with 'my' John. So I'm assuming (I know you should never assume) that it's him. Terry Bugg tends to agree. According to the Larkin book 'Ireland to Illawarra' it says in part "Peter Larkin has sponsored many friends and relatives to the Colony and was a 'Patron to his friends and family and was noted as sponsor on many baptisms in the area including his convict worker John McDermott.." This is in fact correct, John McDermott was baptised RC in Dapto in 1839 (as an adult) and the sponsors were Peter Larkin and Mary Gilmore. It does look at though the John McDermott who was in Windsor is the wrong one. Oh well, back to square one (do not pass go, can I collect the $200?). Thanks again for your help with this, Best wishes, Terri BRYAN bryan@nor.com.au Yamba NSW Australia -----Original Message----- From: Vivienne Caldwell <viv@zip.com.au> To: AUS-NSW-SE-L@rootsweb.com <AUS-NSW-SE-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Sunday, 27 December 1998 6:00 Subject: LARKIN and McDERMOTT >A little additional information. > >There was a John McDermott in the Illawarra during the 1840s, I don't >know about the 1830s but it is possible.
