Specifically; a.. information from Electoral Rolls, b.. some references from newspapers on the Literary Society, of which he was a member, c.. a newspaper report detailing a letter from him at Mafeking in 1900, d.. a report of him returning from the war. Do you have these details? As you can well imagine there are many other Smiths mentioned both before and after George Franklin. One early settler was a George William Smith and some reports only mention George Smith (this could be William or Franklin). Another Smith from Tomerong also went to the war in South Africa. I would be interested to discover more information about George and his relatives in Tomerong. Do you have any details? I would be grateful for any information you can provide, including more specific details on where you visited in 1991. A newspaper report concerning a bushfire in January of 1884 stated "...Mr George Smith nearly lost his dwelling house and outhouses...". There is no mention of life lost so perhaps the daughter you mentioned in your Email may have died for other reasons (or maybe in another fire?). Lastly could you scan and Email, or describe in more detail, the photos you have? Do you have a photograph of George Franklin in his uniform? Marg Blair Tomerong, NSW, Australia rayblair@shoal.net.au
