>I have a copy of the Kiama Independent, Tuesday, March 2, 1886. It lists an >ancestor of mine under deaths 'McLelland - February 20th, at the residence >of her grandson, Mr Robert McLelland, Broughton Creek, Mrs Sarah McLelland, >aged 114 years' > >Can anyone shed any light onto Sarah's real age? she and her husband Robert >immigrated on the "Wilson" and tried to lower their ages to collect the >bounty due to younger and fitter people. I don't have any precise details on Sarah McCLELLAND's age, but she was the daughter of Robert and Isabella ARMSTRONG, and brother of James ("Bedad") ARMSTRONG who lived to the documented age of 107, so longevity certainly ran in the family. Bedad died in 1880, so would have been born c1773. If Sarah was indeed 114, she would have been born c1772 - not impossible.
