Max, >There's that name again! "Fountaindale", the property at Jamberoo. You >may remember I'm interested in the Fountaindale School at Robertson and >the nearby road, Fountaindale Road. As the farm/property was named >first, I wonder if the name originates in Co. Fermanagh as so many of >the area's settlers were from there. Or did one of the Jamberoo or Robertson settlers pinch it from the other? Jamberoo has the property "Fountaindale" on Fountaindale Rd and with Fountaindale Creek running through it, from the foothills of Saddleback to the Minnamurra River. That area was settled by the 1840s, but I don't know who originally settled the property before George GRAY bought it. >The owner of the land donated for the Fountaindale School was James >McBarron, a native of Fermanagh so......??? As were almost all the Irish settlers in Kiama. A quick scan of my (partial) Fermanagh OS map doesn't show any Fountaindale - it almost doesn't sound Irish enough <g>.
