    1. BROWSER SURVEY - Results

    3. Hello everyone Firstly, thanks to everyone who participated in the browser survey. Your response and comments were both informative and appreciated, and sometimes amusing! The purpose of the survey was to gain some idea of what everyone is currently using to surf the web. When creating pages it can be difficult to determine exactly what features to include in order to best utilise the available technology in a way which will benefit the majority of users. Thus, the lowest common denominator is the real indicator. In general, most people are using versions of Netscape and IE of 4 or above. This has been of great help to me, and possibly others. I would like to repeat this again in a few months time with a more concise set of questions. Maybe Santa will have made some changes! Microsoft narrowly came in ahead of Netscape (a point which brings sorrow to me personally, but would please Mr Gates no end!) Netscape (22) 4.5 - 4 4.0x - 15 3.0x - 2 2 - 1 Internet Explorer (23) 5 - 2 4.0x - 15 3.0x - 5 not specified - 1 Some comments are also worth including (anonymously, of course) GFIOWW "Internet Explorer; although I am not totally impressed and would change to another if I knew it's system as well as the Gates Factory Imposed One With Windows." "I know it is sad for us, but we only use Netscape 2 ..." "I use the Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 (VERSION 4.72.3110.8 and if you know what all those numbers mean you are certainly better than me)" - I have no ideal what those numbers mean "I use Netscape and not Micro$oft's Internet Extortioner" For those who are interested, I use Netscape Communicator 4.5 (included in the above count) Viv -- Vivienne Caldwell viv@zipworld.com.au vc04@uow.edu.au viv@wollongong.apana.org.au Wollongong NSW http://www.zip.com.au/~viv AUS-NSW-SE pages under construction at http://www.zip.com.au/~viv/aus-nsw-se.htm
