    1. Frank McCaffrey Diaries

    3. There is a collection at the University of Wollongong that contain information of particular relevance to the region covered by this list. These are the notebooks of Francis McCaffrey, who published two books assumed to be derived from these notebooks, one of which is mainly concerned with cattle breeding and another which is entitled "The History of Illawarra and its Pioneers". The way in which information has been randomly entered in the notebooks make the finding an item on a specific topic virtually impossible. There is no chronological or thematic order to page upon page of small but neat handwriting. However, one does get the impression that McCaffrey has most probably carried a notebook with him regularly and entered the information soon after it had been acquired. I have been typing up one of the notebooks and will post a series of excerpts to the list which may be of interest to some subscribers. Words followed by a question mark indicate that I couldn't understand the writing, if you recognise any of these words (usually place names), please let me know! Eventually it is hoped they will be typed up and indexed. There are quite a few notebooks - if anyone does want to look at them at the Uni be prepared for some long sessions. Also it would be necessary to contact the archivist, Michael Organ first. Viv Vivienne Caldwell http://www.zip.com.au/~viv
