George and Jane are my gg-grandparents. With the help of some of the people on this list I have some information on Jane ROUGHLEY's family but I would like to find out more about George MARSHALL (also known as MARSHELL). He apparently met Jane in Araluen or Braidwood some time between 1851-1863, on their children's birth certificates they say they were married in Sydney on 30th April 1863 BUT there is absolutely no record of this marriage!! Why did they go to Sydney to get married?? All Jane's brothers and sisters were married in or near Braidwood and Araluen.... By 1863 George was 33 years old and Jane 23. George's death certificate in 1899 says he was 40 at the time of his marriage and in NSW for 11 years. I would like to know what he did in NSW for those 11 years and what particularly he did in Araluen - was he a gold miner? Would there be records of this? He must have had a bit of money as in 1864 he and Jane are in Victoria and own land in Collins St and then he had ownership of the Brunswick Hotel from 1864-1868. In 1869 he, Jane and there first two children move to Yea Victoria where George buys another Pub. Is there any way I can get any more information on my elusive George and his time in the Braidwood District? Any help would be greatly!!!!! appreciated.
