    3. Hello Clare, Thank you for your reply. Jane Evans (nee Coe's) husband Thomas EVANS, was born in Tasmania in circa 1833 to Thomas EVANS and Johanna HOLLAND (Johanna arrived in Tasmania on board the "Charles Kerr" in 1835 as an Irish immigrant. Young Thomas EVANS was one of nine children. The Evans family moved from Tasmania, to Victoria and then through NSW and settling around 1860 in Coonamble. Young Thomas EVANS married Jane COE in 1865, in Dubbo, at the time the couple's marriage were living at "Merri Merri", later they settled at Yarra Yarra. Jane COE was born circa 1844 either in West Bargo or Binda, to Charles COE (convict arrived on the Katherine Stewart Forbes in 1830, sentenced to Life, tried in Essex in 1829 for the crime of pick pocketing) and to Widow Elizabeth PEARCE (nee McGuiness). Elizabeth was the daughter of Elizabeth Macginnis (convict arrived on the "Friendship" in January 1818 with her two children Thomas 7 and Elizabeth 5). Thomas EVANS died in Coonamble in 1885, Jane's mother Elizabeth COE (Pearce nee Mcguiness) died in 1898, and she was living with Jane EVANS and her children in Namoi Street in Coonamble at the time of her death. It is after 1898 we lost sight of Jane EVANS. Thomas and Jane EVANS (nee COE) had 6 daughters and 3 sons. The daughters married into the Cheatham, 1) Stuart 2) Jarrett, Skelton, Kelly, Jerrett and McPhee families. The Regan family we have been researching go back to John Regan who married? Honora McGrath (circa 1840) and had two children Mary Ann Regan and John Regan around 1841 and 1843, and in 1845 Honora Regan (nee McGrath) married George Smith in Yass. John Regan is a mystery as is Honara McGrath, who were they, where did they come from, and did John Regan die before Honara married George Smith. A direct descendant of John and Honora is still living in Boorowa. 3. Hi Bob I have an interest in both of these families too. I am researching all the early families at Reidsdale & Braidwood district, of which there are CAHILL's. LOVEOCK is my grandmothers maiden name, though not related to the Cooma LOVELOCK's, not within the last 300 years anyway :-) I am lead to beleive that your Richard James CAHILL's parents are, James John CAHILL m 24 May 1875, St Bernards R/C, Reidsdale, Braidwood, NSW to Elizabeth Mary HICKEY. Yes there is a John CAHILL m 03 Feb 1868, Christ Church, Cooma, NSW, to Elizabeth Mary LOVELOCK. More discussion is needed ? 1. [NSW-SE] R.C. Cemetery Boorowa - Jane EVANS
    2. Janice Doughty
    3. Good Evening Listers, I hope I am on the correct list for a query regarding a family who lived in BOOROWA in NSW. In our family research we have been searching for the death of a Jane EVANS (nee COE). Jane EVANS (nee COE), was the wife of Thomas EVANS and the daughter of Charles and Elizabeth COE (PEARCE nee McGUINESS). Jane was born at West Bargo in 1844 (Southern Highlands) and baptised as Jane PEARCE the daughter of Widow Elizabeth PEARCE (nee Mcguiness), it was only later that Jane took the name of her father, ex-convict Charles COE (arrived Katherine Stewart Forbes 1830 - Life). The COE family lived for many years in Binda, before they moved North West to Coonamble. Between 1844 to 1862 Charles and Elizabeth COE (PEARCE nee McGUINESS), had at least 8 children, maybe more, the eldest being Jane. In 1865 Jane COE married Thomas EVANS in Dubbo at the United Church of England and Scotland, the couple were living on a property called "Merri Merri" at the time. Over the years this couple had eight children, Elizabeth, Mary, William, May, Thomas, Johanna, Rose and Gertrude "Maudie" EVANS. On 12th February 1885 in Coonamble Jane EVANS's (nee COE's) husband Thomas died at the age of 47 from Erysipelas of the leg and was buried in the RC Cemetery at Coonamble. Jane's mother Elizabeth COE (PEARCE nee McGUINESS) died also in Coonamble on 5th July 1898. At the time Elizabeth COE had been living with her daughter Jane EVANS (nee COE) in Namoi Street in Coonamble. However, after 1898 we had been unable to find out what happened to Jane EVANS (nee COE). We thought she may have remarried, however we could not find a marriage. Only yesterday, however we at last found Jane EVANS, we have been researching another family whose many branches settled in the Binalong, Galong, Boorowa and Yass districts and only by chance this transcription was found in the Boorowa Cemetery Book by a cousin of my husband who has been assisting with our research. "...Jane EVANS died 27.01.1932 - aged 85 years - daughter of George (should be CHARLES) COE and Elizabeth McGUINESS - married Thomas EVANS, buried BOOROWA R.C..." The only conclusion is that Jane EVANS, left Coonamble sometime after her mother Elizabeth's death, and maybe moved in with one of her children, who had settled in BOOROWA. I have applied for a copy of her death certificate, hoping more mysteries will be solved. However, in the meantime I am hoping that maybe someone of this List, may know something about Jane EVANS (nee COE) and the story of her life in BOOROWA and if she was living with family. If only we had known that Jane was buried in BOOROWA late last year, as we were there walking around the cemetery gathering information on a not related family we were researching at that time, the Regans, which lead us to the Ventables, Jamiesons, Huchitsons, Hughstons, McGraths and Smiths. We walked up and down the many graves in the cemetery, and most likely we passed Jane's. Any assistance would be very much appreciated. Regards, Janice Belrose - Sydney

    3. Hello Henry Hawkins and Elizabeth Shannon married in 1858 in Braidwood and had 7 children, Henry, Ann, Elizabeth, Rachel, Mary and John. Another daughter Jane died in 1883 aged 16yrs, however this makes her birth year the same as Rachels but she was baptised in 1868 on the same day as her sister Elizabeth but Rachel wasn't. Jane's place of death was Lascelles St, Braidwood. Was this a hospital or were the family living there at the time? Also, one of the witnesses to her death was a J. Shannon. Could this person have been a relation of Elizabeth's? With thanks Chris Randall

The information you found on Henry Hawkins and Elizabeth Shannon on the Monaro Pioneers web site was supplied by me. I have put it there in the hope other descendants of this family will contact me. There is almost no extra information on their marriage certificate, Elizabeth stated that she was a spinster and her usual residence was Braidwood and on her children's birth certificates she stated she was born in London. I have not been able to establish how she came into the country either.
