Hi Ray > My particular interest is the MAJORS CREEK / BRAIDWOOD area, a look at > our Home Page may explain my motives. Welcome to the list. Do you know if there are any original buildings on what was Major Elrington's grant still standing? I am a descendent of his and have found conflicting stories regarding his home at Mt Elrington. A have tons of information on the Elrington home in Worcester (which is still standing and dates from pre 889), but very little on the Braidwood home. Well, it is still less than 24 hours since the list was created and the first member subscribed, but we now have about 24 subscribers. Although I am the 'listowner' (which gives me all the really exciting listowner responsibilities!) this list is for all of you, and those who join in the future. Also, I am not really alone in the creation of this list - Cathy Dunn and John Graham have both contributed heavily to the creation of the list and both will be sharing their considerable knowledge. I thank you both for all of your help. Please don't be shy in making posts. If you do not have a specific query, perhaps you could introduce yourself and list your interests in the region. As for the region itself, I have had a number of enquiries regarding the boundaries. Basically, it is the coastal area from Helensburgh south to Moruya and inland follows an arc roughly bounded by Captains Flat, Queanbeyan, Goulburn, Berrima, Bowral, Picton and Appin. I need a map for the web page that shows this area if anyone can help. Any other suggestion for the page would also be welcome. Looking forward to hearing from all of you Viv -- Vivienne Caldwell viv@zipworld.com.au vc04@uow.edu.au viv@wollongong.apana.org.au Wollongong NSW http://www.zip.com.au/~viv

I have a copy of the Kiama Independent, Tuesday, March 2, 1886. It lists an ancestor of mine under deaths 'McLelland - February 20th, at the residence of her grandson, Mr Robert McLelland, Broughton Creek, Mrs Sarah McLelland, aged 114 years' Can anyone shed any light onto Sarah's real age? she and her husband Robert immigrated on the "Wilson" and tried to lower their ages to collect the bounty due to younger and fitter people. Thanks, Lyndal Black (nee McClelland)
In your initial mailout regarding the area covered by the list I noticed that the definite boundaries have not yet been made rigid. I have a large interest in the Gundagai/Adelong/Tumut/Batlow region of South-east New South Wales and would like to request that this particular region be included within the area of discussion for the list Scott Brown Beenleigh, Qld http://www.uq.net.au/~zzsbrown/family/
Thank you for the welcome. Though I have lived in the Illawarra region for most of my seventy years my main genealogical interests are outside the area. The exception to this is my wife Irene's great grandmother Ellen TAYLOR nee MACNAMARA who was born in Campbelltown c1835. Would anyone with any knowledge of Ellen's likely parents please make contact. Thank you Neville Arrowsmith Bellambi arrowsmith@w150.aone.net.au

Does anyone know the date the Continental Baths in Wollongong were opened. I understand at the time both the surf clubs put in teams of swimmers and competed in races against each other. I'd really like to find any newspaper reports of these races - does anyone know the best source of getting copies from old Wollongong newspapers. Meg

I would like to say thank you to all the Listers who helped me with enquiry about ROOKWOOD Cemetary and Joshua Sawtell. I am most grateful for all the helpful tips and actual information. I have thanked a lot of people personally but just want to ensure I have not missed anyone. Nina from Townsville
Is anyone familiar with the procedures for finding ancestors at Rookwood?? I was recently there and tried to find GGGrandaddy Joshua SAWTELL but apparently....no record. I have one doc which says he was buried at Rookwood and the "Illawarra Pioneers pre1920" which says C/E, bur Sydney Necropolis. Arent they one and the same?? I asked for a computer check at three offices other than Anglican but they all said no record?? Should I have found an office which was for "Necropolis"?? I was really disappointed at having talked a relative into taking me out there, not to find him!!! Many thanks Nina from Townsville
