I thought it said son-in-law, I will research it and follow up. I know the name is somewhere in my research in 1980. Jamberoo has the property "Fountaindale" on Fountaindale Rd and with Fountaindale Creek running through it, from the foothills of Saddleback to the Minnamurra River. 3. I would look to another source of the name. The Smith's of Nowra and Tomerong after arriving on the "Brothers" in 1841 first settled at Jamberoo, I believe that they were on a property owned by the Patterson's who hired arriving settlers to clear land. I have not researched the details but I ran across these references at the Mitchell when following up on John Alexander's Smith's(John & Eliza Smith of Violet Bank Nowra) letters to my father in 1941. The William Smith's then moved to Bolong and Tomerong, and the John Smith's to Nowra. 3. Hello All My father grew up in the Robertson area, famous for growing great potatoes and for as long as I can remember, whenever I was doing a task in the "right way", he would say.. "Now you're diggin' where there's 'taters" This expression had found its way into my (very incomplete) family history as a memento of the past and a link to the old days at Robertson. Last weekend I mentioned it to Dad and he said "Oh no son, that's what the Yanks used to say in New Guinea in the War".... Drat, blast and damn! Another fine theory shot down! 2. JOHN BERRY
    3. Hi, can anyone help me with information regarding the above gentleman ? He was in the Shoalhaven from, as early as, September 1881 when he was engaged as a mining manager. He was know as "Captain" but this was not a military title but a term used by miners for a supervisor or shift manager. He remained involved in mining in the Shoalhaven until the late 1890's. There was a Captain W.H. Reynolds involved in mining in the Bathurst/Blayney district from the late 1890's, but I have been unable to establish whether this is the same man. Still looking for information on the McKane family of Jeralong, Shoalhaven River. Thanks to everyone for replies regarding SIVEWRIGHT: does anyone know when he came to Australia, residence, or occupation, pre 1871 ? 1. George and Henry GRAY of Kiama
    2. John Graham
    3. GEORGE and HENRY GRAY George (1802-1887) and Henry (1806-1894) were the second and third children of John GRAY and Mary HETHERINGTON. They were both baptised in the village of Shanmullagh, about 1 km on the Tyrone side of the Fermanagh-Tyrone border. George GRAY married Isabella VANCE (1805-1889) from Oghill, Co. Fermanagh (she was the daughter of William VANCE and Jane SPROULE, and a cousin to Joseph VANCE of Kiama). George and Isabella and their four eldest children arrived in Sydney on March 11th, 1841 aboard the ship "Brothers". After working in Wollongong for a short time, George took up the clearing lease on 1000 acres of James ROBB's "Riversdale" estate at Kiama in 1843. To assist him in clearing this large tract of land, George brought together a group of immigrants who all hailed from the area of north-east Fermanagh in and around Magheraculmoney parish. These included his brothers William and Henry GRAY, his brothers-in-law Thomas WILSON and John HETHERINGTON, as well as James HETHERINGTON, Christy HETHERINGTON, James and Gerard IRVINE, James IRVING, William and Joseph VANCE, Donald and Alexander ROBINSON, Lancelot NETHERY, John NOBLE, David LINDSAY, Edward BRYANT, John FRANCIS, John and Robert McCLELLAND, William BURLESS and Thomas KENT. In 1854 George purchased one of the town lots in the first land sale at Gerringong. In the same year he also purchased "Mount Salem" at Kiama, on the slopes of Saddleback Mountain, where he lived until his death. Henry GREY married Maria WALMSLEY (c1815-1900) at Ardess, Magheraculmoney Parish, Co. Fermanagh on August 28th, 1833. Maria was the daughter of Edward WALMSLEY and Margaret ELLIOTT of Drumcahy, Co. Fermanagh. Henry and Maria arrived in Sydney aboard the "Wilson" on January 7th, 1842, and came immediately to Wollongong to join Henry's brother George. In 1843 Henry joined George in clearing the "Riversdale" estate at Kiama. Following this, he leased land at Omega Retreat from James Mackey GRAY (said to be a relative, but we have no proof). In the mid-1850s Henry purchased a number of town lots in Kiama, and also "Fountaindale" at Jamberoo, where he lived until his death. Both George and Henry were active in community affairs. George was one of the driving forces behind the establishment of the Church of England in both Kiama and Gerringong, and Henry served on the Kiama Municipal Council from 1861 until 1869. Currawang is just SW of Goulburn, in the vicinity of Lake George. There was a Catholic cemetery in nearby Collector, NSW. But where would the parish church for the people of Currawang have been located? A child, later to be entered in the civil registration as Unnamed Girl Whelan, had been born in Currawang to Irish Catholic parents John and Mary Whelan in January 1865. While she lacks given names in her civil registration, she would have been accorded a name at the time of her baptism. But where's the church?
