Hello Carolyn, Thanks for having a look on your indexes for me. I have found some of the family members under various spellings and have some birth dates. I think that I'll have to purchase either a marriage or death certificate which will hopefully give me Augusta Schintler's date and place of birth. Be cautious if asking southpark for copies of her convict letters. She does charge and when her authenticity was questioned on Australia-l she unsubbed. If these letters were obtained by copying the Colonial Secretaries papers I wonder if she has permission from AO NSW to sell copies ? Congratulations on this site. I think it's a great idea to have sites for specific areas - wish there were more of the same! Anyway, The names I am interested in are: John WARWICK m. Rebecca FAIRLEY in 1853. Lived in Braidwood/Nelligen area until Rebecca's death. Then John moved his family to Canberra where he was a blacksmith and also had the post office for a while. He died in 1900. Next family: Jessie OLD had de facto relationship with George Leonard COOPER - 2 daughters, Mary & Elizabeth. Lived and died in the Currawang area. Have been to the old church and cemetery and wonder if anyone else is interested in this family. There aren't too many of us around - the name (my maiden name) is spelt either OLD or OLDE. Hoping to hear from someone out there. Dorothy in Sydney dot-pete@acay.com.au

Colonial Secretarys Office Sydney 22nd October 1828 Sir With reference to the Government order of the 16th Inst No 31. I am directed by His Excellency The Governor, to inform you that instead of working until 2 o'clock, as the men ordered, the convicts on Saturday last left their work and began to assemble at one o'clock for the purpose of marching to dinner at two. In order therefore to prevent this in future, you will be pleased to cause the bell at Hyde Park Barrack to be rung on Saturdays exactly at two o'clock. Inform the several overseers that the men are to continue at work until that hour- and give directions that their dinner may not be prepared until half past two. F. A. Hely Esq
Hi all Please disregard my message below that I sent in panic. While I slept all my little lambs came home and appeared innocently this morning. Hi list Kathryn Lucas now Southpark advised list she has some letters regarding convicts. I am interested to know from where and how much it will cost and whether it will be worthwhile. Several weeks ago Kathryn advised list she had some historical articles on Australia published in England. I came in hook line and sinker. I paid $15 and most of the "articles" turned out to be tiny little snippets of "news from the diggings" etc and totally useless. I advised her I was disappointed but received no response. This sort of thing can give the net a bad name and people are reluctant to respond in case they get taken for a ride. I would want to see before I bought from this lady again. A William AHERNE ended up here in Picton and I have him in my Surnames Index plus my Court Records Index. So I am interested in this letter to be able to pass it on to descendants as I have quite a few AHERNE researchers listed. Hello Carolyn, Thanks for your generous look-up offer. Could I please ask you to have a look on the NSW & Vic Records for a birth of my great grandmother Augusta Paulina SCHINTLER born circa 1859. Neither Dad or I have been able to find it. She was supposedly born in Beechworth. Vic to Christian SCHINTLER & Sophia BEEGLING. Many thanks.
