    3. New to the list. These two people are my wish come true. David SMITH b. 1800 Wapping, London, was a convict, convicted of larceny and transported to New South Wales in 1818. David Smith is known, as the first white settler in Kiama, he was a cedar getter and, went on to become one of Kiama's respected citizens. His wife Ann DAVIS was also a convict. Ann DAVIS b. 1805 Aberystwyth, Wales, Ann was indicted for stealing in 1829 and arrived in New South Wales in 1830. David Smith and Ann Davis were married in 1832 their known children were: baptised Elizabeth Smith 1834, Mary Ann Smith 1834, William Charles Smith born 12 Dec 1836, and David Smith born 13 May1838. If anybody is interested in these people please contact me, as I have a lot of information on their lives in Kiama. Regards Rhonda Newell Terrigal, New South Wales.

    3. Hi Rhonda Welcome aboard. Great to hear you're still researching. I haven't had anyone else access BAMFORD in my index since you did back in 1995. The Picton court record films we took some cases from are all now at Campbelltown Library if you want to get the rest. I donated the seven films to go with the indexes they purchased. Other researchers of this area may be interested to know that. It means they no longer have to go through me to copy off cases. They are not on public access. You will need to ask for them. 3. Hi everyone I trust you all had a great Christmas and New Year. Santa hopefully delivered that new computer equipment you wanted and threw in few lost relatives for good measure! He was nice to me - I got some of both. So what is new to the list??? Subscribers and Messages We now have almost 200 subscribers, but you are still shy. Please tell us about your families in the region if you haven't posted yet. If you have posted before consider a re-post as many new members will not have seen your original query. If you are new and want to see what has been posted to the list you can search the AUS-NSW-SE archives by going to: http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl Enter the name of the list, AUS-NSW-SE, and then you will be able to enter keywords. Alternatively if you want to just have a look through previous digests I have them all and can forward copies to anyone who wants them. Contact me directly please. Photo Gallery Judging by the number of hits to my web pages many of you will have already found the infant photo gallery. Due to some bad links that had to be sorted out I hadn't announced it to the list yet. John Graham has kindly checked it again and tells me it is 'working like a bought one', we know what he means, but my experience with 'bought' things lately isn't good! I will be adding more photos in the coming weeks but if you have one you would like to see there please send it to me. But only if you own it, not those pinched from other sites please!! Eventually I would like to have at least one photo from every town in south east NSW in the photo gallery. Frank McCaffrey Frank will come out of hibernation and return on Friday this week - his excerpts that is, the man himself is unfortunately in a permanent sleep. Don't forget comments, questions, contributions and suggestions are always welcome. 2. Jillian Dacyk
    3. Regarding the posting from Jennifer Lambert Tracet: Jennifer, I do have an interest in mining in southern NSW and Queensland. My great-grandfather was a miner, living in various locations in the Goulburn area. Two of his sons were killed in an accident at Mount Morgan in I think 1901 (details not at hand). I was able to obtain a fantastic 66-page handwritten report on the investigation into their deaths while at the Queensland Archives in Brisbane 1 1/2 years ago. I'd particularly be very interested in learning about mines in southern NSW, as I have no information at all on names of mines, types, , locations and so forth . . > If there is anyone on the list with an interest in mining in southern > NSW, north eastern Victoria, or the mining fields of North Queensland, I > would appreciate discussion with you. -----------------------------------oOo----------------------------------- Jillian Dacyk - Edmonton, Alberta, Canada [Researching surnames: Ash, Bointon, Carr, Foxton, Graham, Leadley, Luccock, Metcalf, Smith, Vickerman (YRKS); Hines, Smiley, McGrath (IRE/SCT); Dacyk, Fedorowich, Maniowski, Zajatz (Zaich), Zaleschuk (UKR/POL) E-mail: turrella@freenet.edmonton.ab.ca -------------------------------------------------------------------------

    3. Hello, I'm new to this list and would like to ask if anyone knows of the Taylor family. Thomas Taylor arrived in NSW in 1818 from Lancashire England. He was 18 years old and eventually married Julia Rooney (Kelly). Some of the surnames of his descendants are MILFORD, HENWOOD, SIELER, POLL, RUMBLE, WHITLEY, WHICKHAM, BANNISTER, DEDMAN, STRANG, STEWART, TOWE and BEVERIDGE. Thomas is my husband's ggggrandfather through the Stewart line. Thomas had only one child, a boy named Thomas but this Thomas had 12 children, mostly girls hence the large number of descendants. I do have some intesting notes written by Thomas Taylor Junior on his dad and his dad's early days in Australia which I'd love to share with anyone remotely connected. I could post the names he mentions in these memoirs later if there is interest. I look forward to hearing from someone. Thanks. Loriane Frewing British Columbia Canada

    3. Membership is growing dramatically - numbers will be notified to the list when things slow down a little. The site has been visited 970 times since our 1 January launch and we have added 41 pages which includes the new category of Market Place for professional researchers and suppliers of genealogy/family history books, cd's, fiche etc to advertise themselves and/or their books as well as somewhere to sell those indexes and cd's. The Members Research Pages on the IFHAA site have now been updated. If you registered interests when you joined the IFHAA it may be worth checking the MRI's as a number of members have registered similar interests. Also updated was the Mail List page with 2 new mail lists and another one pending approval see http://members.graffiti.net/~ifhaa/maillist.htm for details of the lists There are 5 new biographies and two new local histories on the site. A format for the Military history pages has now been determined and will make it to the web site within the week. Volunteer positions (see http://members.graffiti.net/~ifhaa/structur.htm ) are filling rapidly. There are still a few page maintainer positions available and I will be announcing some liaison and other positions within the week. I am interested to know from where and how much it will cost and whether it will be worthwhile. Several weeks ago Kathryn advised list she had some historical articles on Australia published in England. I came in hook line and sinker. I paid $15 and most of the "articles" turned out to be tiny little snippets of "news from the diggings" etc and totally useless. I advised her I was disappointed but received no response. This sort of thing can give the net a bad name and people are reluctant to respond in case they get taken for a ride. I would want to see before I bought from this lady again.
