    1. Hugh & Mary Beattie (Grandparents of Dame Mary Gilmore)
    2. Penny Family History
    3. Hi all, I am posting this message for a friend. Hugh & Mary Beattie came from Ireland to Australia in the 1840's. They first settled in the Windsor area, moving from there to Bathurst, Penrith, Hartley, Carcoar and Goulburn. Their children were: Sarah b. 1845 Windsor Mary b 1846 Windsor Jane b 1847 Bathurst James b 1849 Bathurst Martha b 1850 Bathurst William b 1852 Bathurst Thomas b 1855 Windsor John b 1857 Penrith Isabella b 1858 Penrith Alfred b 1860 Hartley Unnamed male b 1863 Carcoar My friend is descended through Alfred, who married Sarah about 1885. Mary Ann Beattie married Donald Cameron in Goulburn in 1864, they were the parents of Dame Mary Gilmore, who was born at "Merry Vale" (near Goulburn) which was owned by her Beattie grandparents in 1865. Much has been written about Dame Mary's family, but my friend is interested in the descendants of the other Beattie children. If anyone has any information that they would like to share, I will pass it on. Thanks in advance, Penny Canberra ACT

    1. QUIRK and GALLAGHER Families
    2. gcallaghan
    3. Hi Listers Seeking info on the above families. The Quirk siblings are descended from John Quirk (convict per Larkins) and Anne Oates ( who re-married after John's death at Bankstown in 1853). Apparently, the family moved to Mount Keira following the new marriage to Thomas Gilham, as Thomas Gillam is noted as a farmer at Mt Keira on 1872 Grevilles. Children by John Quirk are Anne b. 1845, Catherine, b.1847, Edward b.1849 d.1899 (fell from Signal Hill), Jane b.1850 and Ellen Amelia b.1853. Ellen Amelia Quirk married Thomas William GALLAGHER (son of James Gallagher) 9/7/1877 at St Francis Xavier Wollongong. Issue of this marriage: Mary Ann b. 1878, John b.1879, Margaret Jane b.1880, Ellen Amelia b.1882, Joseph b.1889, Ruby M b.1891 and Thomas Edwin b.1899. I'd love to hear from anyone with any knowledge of the above families. Regards Viv Callaghan

    3. Hi Peter and Pat, It so happens that one of my GG grandmothers came from Devon at about the same time as yours but fortunately late enough to be in the 1841 census. I have recently been using the services of a genealogist in Devon. His name is Antony Broad and his email is [email protected] He charges ca 7 pounds 35p an hour for research and he seems to give good results for that figure. I am sure he would not mind me giving you all his contact address. The matter is further complicated by the fact the the IGI actually has Jane Parker marrying a Michael ANTHONY with several of the correct children ensuing. However on all certificates I have obtained he is referred to as John and signed his name on the marriage certificate. These often have parent's details. How about John's death certificate? A transcriber is a cheaper option for obtaining certificates, if you are not already aware of that. Joy ----63c75586306c272d--

    3. Hi, I see the marriage was listed at Broulee. There was a James Anthony born in 1848 to a John Anthony. Is that the right age? Look for spelling variants. He may have just arrived by boat also. That was not uncommon. 3. Hi All, Can anyone help me? My GG Grandparents John ANTHONEY and Jane PARKER were married at Nerrigundah in 1867. I have been able to trace Jane but can find no evidence that John existed anywhere prior to the day they maried. No detalis listed on copy of certificate from NSW BDM. Most of their children were then born in western NSW so I suspect that John's occupation (or lack of) required them to move about. This one is a real brick wall so any help much appreciated. Cate
