Marie, Do you know Henry's origins? My gr gr grandmother was Harriet WARRY b. 1800 Hinton St George, Somerset. There were several WARRY connections from Somerset who came to Australia around 1850. Pat McGufficke, Armidale, NSW
Hi Fellow Listers My ancestors Daniel MALONEY & Catherine HICKEY settled at Reidsdale in c1850's. Daniel's sister, Honora MALONEY came out in 1853. Edward CONWAY married Honora MALONEY,16 Nov 1855 at Braidwood. I haven't been able to find any children born to this couple ? I haven't been able to establish with any certainty when & where they died ? Please can someone help with any info on this couple ? Kind Regards Col in QLD --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The county of Argyle originally included the entire area from Sutton Forest Parish to Goulburn, Bungonia, and Lake Bathurst and on South to Braidwood and Krawarree which was the end of the known world it seems. Sutton Forest Parish was given Braidwood district in 1834. In 1834 the parishes of Goulburn, Bungonia and Lake Bathurst were given to John Vincent. He baptised my great grandfathers elder brother William at Lake Bathurst parish in 1834. This location was listed as Braidwood on his death certificate. His parents Jim and Marie Ann Pender nee Stewart/d were married in 1833 at Braidwood district and went to work/live at Inverary Station which is 20 km north of Lake Bathurst. The inverary road went from Marulen through Bungonia to Lake Bathurst. The road to Braidwood orignally came off that road at Bungonia area and moved south along the Durran Durra Creek to Braidwood. Jimmy or Johnny Christmas was speared on that road by the Durran Durra. He is still buried there in an unmarked grave along the Durran Durra. Bungonia and Lake Bathurst were the areas for the quality Black Marble mined in the are between them. Bungonia was probably the largest centre outside of Sydney in the 1830s. I think Lake Bathurst had some nine hotels then also. When the marble ran out and the gold took over they moved South and elsewhere and many away entirely after the gold finished. Braidwood was surveyed as a town in 1839 and the first lots sold in 1840. Braidwood Wilson was given his land grant from which the town was excised in 1822 and hence the town takes this as the date of its foundation but there was no town area occupied until 1840. The County of Argyle was huge and areas were very general. So Sutton Forest/Bowral to Braidwood and south to Krawarree was some County and some Parish or actually later parishes. Hi, Does anyone know what's happening with the IFHAA and its website? I know it moved to Rootsweb, but ever since, it's been impossible to access any of its pages. If I click on a link from the index page, such as surname interests, it shows the URL as it should: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~ifhaa/ifhaa/mri/surname.htm or http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~ifhaa/ifhaa/maillist.htm or whatever, but then the URL automatically changes itself to another URL: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~ifhaa/_themes/clearday/clea1011.css and displays the (most frustrating!!) message: Not Found The requested URL /~ifhaa/_themes/clearday/clea1011.css was not found on this server. This seems to happen to me on *all* links from the index page. i.e. I can't get anywhere on this site any more!! (Using Netscape Navigator 4.75 - don't know if that makes any difference.) Not only that, but I've been periodically e-mailing Scott Brown - who I thought was in charge of IFHAA/the site - since June of 2002 asking for my address to be changed in the IFHAA listings but I am unable to get any sort of response from him. It's *useless* having a dead e-mail address listed, and useless having what could and should be a great Aussie genealogical resource that doesn't work. Does anyone know why this site has been allowed to come to this, or why Scott no longer answers e-mail? I contacted Peter Larsen, who was listed on the site as a person connected with the admin, and he tells me he hasn't had anything to do with it for several years, and has even tried asking Rootsweb if they could help remove him but they said no they couldn't do anything. I seem to remember there were other people on this list who *may* have had some connection with the running of IFHAA, (but I may be wrong) but that was a few years ago, so that is why I'm startingn by asking here. Can anyone throw any light on this shemozzle? Thanks Pam An Aussie transplanted to Rotorua, NZ.
