I wonder if this is only coincidence, Royal M. Reid married Lavinia Drury in Sydney in 1924. Lavinia's Mother was Ellen McCullough who was born in Curraweela, near Taralga. Royal M. Reid was born in 1896 and his parents were Thomas and Isabella. Any connection? To the experts on Kiama. I am a descendent of William Geoghegan and Priscilla Gard of Kiama. They established the smallgoods factory at Berry which was important to the town. I have done a deal of work on them. I am informed that there was a book written on the family but I do not know its title. Does anyone know the name or the availability of the work. I am trying to locate the detail of Laurence of Scarborough and the Gahagan (sic) bros of London who were sculptors. I have reconstructed the Scarborough family detail but we are having difficulty with the links both to London and back to Ireland. I need to locate birth details and the exact parish in Ireland at Meath or Westmeath or Dublin for the family to link it all together. The clan says that the ancestor Charles of Dublin was attainted at Kings Court in 1688 it appears and the lands taken from him in the religious oppression of the day. We need to tie that all in. I would appreciate the help. Wade
I was interested to read this post. My great great grand father James Pender was married at Braidwood in 1833 to Mary Ann Stewart/Stuart and his son William was born at Inverary in 1834. His brother James was born at Inverary in 1834/5 and baptised by John Vincent of Sutton Forest in 1836. They moved to Ulladulla in 1836. I believe this was the first marriage in the Braidwood district but the records were not properly kept. Certainly the baptisms and later docs attest to the fact that the marriage was in 1833 even though the records are incomplete. I recently found out from Christine Wright that it was the Reids that owned Inverary at the time. In those days the road to Braidwood came in from the Bungonia area near Marulan and went in along the Durran Durra Creek. Inverary was a strategic point in that route. Norman Whitfield of Braidwood knows the road and the exact place of the grave of the drover killed by the Durran Durra. Hi Leith John Royal REID was born in the year 1900 in the Braidwood District. His parents were Arthur & Mary REID. I can't comment on whether or not John is a descendant of the REID family of REIDSDALE. Dr David REID was settled at his home "Inverary Park" at Bungonia in the 1830's when he was further granted land near Braidwood at what is now known as Reidsdale. After David's death in 1840 the property at Reidsdale was sub-divided & sold. I don't have the complete descendants of Dr David REID but his wife Agnes died in 1860 at Wangaratta. I am in the process of gathering an extensive study of the early families at Reidsdale, affectionately known as "IRISH CORNER". This is because many of the early workers & settlers were Irish immigrants. After gold was found in the Araluen Valley in 1851, Reidsdales population increased to about 600. The population decreased as the gold was worked out & other means of support were needed. If you or other listers have family in the Reidsdale area I will be most grateful to share this research with them & learn more about these families. I would like to hear from any descendant of John McDermott and Sarah McGinley who married in County Down Ire and brought their family to Aus. The only children I know of are Thomas Anthony McDermott who married 1854 Petersham NSW to Ellen Elizabeth Wells dau of Samuel and Catherine Wells. Thomas shows his address as Michelago. They later lived at the Seven Mile, Grenfell NSW. A son of the above Edward Anthony McDermott died 1938 in Wollongong. John McDermott m. 8 August 1853 Queanbeyan NSW to Ellen Muldoon dau of Thomas and Sarah Muldoon of Burra NSW (near Michelago) and sister of Elizabeth Muldoon who married 1864 Braidwood to Samuel Wells jnr. There was also an Edward McDermott who in 1872 was a farmer at Queanbeyan. He died 1884 at Queanbeyan. Len. Port Macquarie.
Hi All, I thought I would send this to the list as I know there are a few people researching Wearins.Bob & Joyce Tuxford wrote regarding Douglas Garnet Wearin, I didn't think I could help but have found the connection. We do have a little more information siblings and such. Hope this helps Regards, Anne & Malcolm In Sydney.

Hi all I am hoping someone can help with the above named family--AlexanderWeatherhead was born in Tweedmouth Northumberland, England OASTprobably around 1810. This date is taken from a small autobiography called "Leaves From My Life" written in 1892. He lived and died in Nangutta NSW-his date of death was 4/4/1901 and is buried in Nangutta cemetery. I am hoping that there may be a family member of his here who has done research on the English/Scottish side of his family--I am descended from the Tweedmouth Weatherheads and have hit a brick wall in 1812 which was the birthdate of Adam Weatherhead,my ancestor. In his book, Alexander describes returning to England in 1886 and visiting, among other places, Middlesbrough which is where my family moved too from Tweedmouth. Unfortunately the book doesn't give any names (of anyone, not even his own wife to whom he was married 50 years--very frustrating!). He also describes visiting family in Eyemouth, just over the border in Scotland--I have a lot of research done for this branch but can't link it with my family but I suspect that this man is the one to do it Any help out there? Many thanks Phil Cotterill

Hi Fellow Listers I am researching the past residents at REIDSDALE. I plan to make a list of ALL events that relate to the people that were at REIDSDALE in the 1800's & early 1900's. This list will then be available to anyone for the asking & I will be giving Braidwood Historical Society a copy. I will be visiting REIDSDALE in February & recording what data I can find. There were over 400 people residing at REIDSDALE in the late 1800's. If you can supply the Birth, Marriage & Death dates our past relatives from REIDSDALE, & there arrival to Australia, they will be included on the list. I look forward to your contributions. Kind Regards Col
