    3. Hello Ray, Thank you for that posting to this Rootsweb List! Mrs Pat Raymond of Pambula is indeed "wonderful"! :))) Pat is a gem in the "Saphire Coast" crown! Pat's reading / transcription of local news is just beaut! Thanks very much Pat. Best regards, Wayne Carter flora.1@bigpond.com Hello again everyone. Just a further note for those of you who might not be aware of it. The Bega Valley Genealogy Society is an extremely efficient and hard-working group of people. They welcome memberships from us at any time. You should be able to find a basic web-site for them on google. Their volunteer researcher: Ms Pat RAYMOND is wonderful ! The society will conduct research in their files for very reasonable fees. Now, here is the main thing which I wanted to say about this superb organisation: they have compiled SURNAME indexes, from the widest variety of sources -- including all local histories etc. -- . If you are a member and attend at their office, you can view these indexes, and make photocopies from them. If you are not a member I think that for a reasonable fee they will photocopy them and post out to you. BUT as this is ongoing work, they are now in SEVERAL volumes; so you will possibly have one or two dozen pages of indexed surnames to be photocopied -- depending upon the surname, etc. I cannot speak highly enough of the wonderful work which these people do; so if anyone has research interests in the Far South Coast (and even in some cases up into the Monaro), you can find references here, which it might otherwise take years to uncover. Good luck to each of you in your ongoing researches. Ray. 3. Hi again Vicki and All. Vicki: given the transcription errors already seen with this marriage (quite apart from the gender issue), I would not be surprised if she NEVER used Margaret; but if instead that is another transcription error for Elizabeth. Hopefully when you are able to obtain this marriage certificate, that might all become clearer for you -- as long as it is not a typewritten transcription! 3. Hello Maureen. I have just sent this information on to Vicki, hopefully it might provide a START for your own searches for her parents: I just looked in my database, to try to find if any local Bega / Eden people MIGHT have been the parents of Elizabeth/Margaret POWER. These two families appear to be the only ones which might fit the time-scale; but of course she might not have gone there as a member of her family. 3. For anyone who might be interested in this WILSON / POWER marriage; here is what I believe to be the correct one. It appears that apart from transcription errors in some of the names, it has the gender of the parties reversed as well. The vagaries of not being able to work from original records, sadly! Is this the marriage of Henry Louis WILSON to Elizabeth POWERS perhaps??. Think so. BDM Regn. 3. Hello Bob. For this family, it seems that the correct surname is ELTHERINGTON; but I have no doubt that there will also be families around the world who have a surname of ETHERINGTON. In the Bega/Eden area there is a HETHERINGTON family (which, although I don't know any of them, I do know that they are related back in Fermanagh to my RAMSEY family. With so many of us dropping the "H" in our speech, it is easy to see how HETHERINGTON and ETHERINGTON might at some time be found to be the same family. However the "L" in ELTHERINGTON seems a bit more problematic than that. I don't have ready access to a Surname Dictionary, to see what they migth say about it. Google might also give some indications. But in the listings which I have made for Bega/Eden etc., my suspicion is that in most cases when they have spelled it ETHERINGTON in the BDM INDEXES, that it might well be a TRANSCRIPTION error. (However there is also the possibility that what I have lumped in with ELTHERINGTON, might well be HETHERINGTONs -- mmmm??? must remember to check that sometime. Thanks for the thought!) I hope that you can follow my line of thought in this Bob. 3. Hi, Bill If I remember correctly, you, kindly, helped me some years ago with a query on Clareville Cemetery. Thanks for your kind offer, but unfortunately, I don't know what school to start with. I am trying to trace my g/g/grandfather George Henry WINK, who came to New Zealand in 1874, with his second wife, and the two daughters from his first marriage. My g/grandfather was born in Auckland in 1875. I have a document, dated July 1878, stating that George had "left the colony"-leaving his, wife and son. I haven't found the daughters in the NZ records, apart from a stint in hospital, by one of them in Jan-Feb 1877. I found the marriages of the daughters. in NSW, in 1888 and 1889- one stating that consent of the father of the bride, George Henry WINK, was given to the marriage. I haven't been able to find his death, in NSW, NZ, or England. At the time of the marriages Emily Agnes WINK was living in Stanwood ? Alice -just says Sydney I was just hopeful, that the records may have been indexed, as in NZ, where the NZSG has done just that, and included some of them on a searchable CD.
