Hi Laraine Your Murphy family were probably tenant farmers at Regentville for a land owner in the district. Sir John Jamison had substantial land there, and at Jamisontown. He died in 1844 and his land was gradually sold off. Many local farmers and investors, like the York brothers purchased large areas and cut the land up into small farms and rented them out. Information on Sir John Jamison is at www.penrithcity.nsw.gov.au/history/ biographies/Jamison.htm Information on Regentville is at www.penrithcity.nsw.gov.au/Lib/ LocalSuburbs/regentville.htm It is advisable to have a look at the local history Dharug and Dungaree (1988) by Murray and White. It gives a good overview of the history of the area until 1860 and a great deal on Sir John. It looks like the penrithcity site is down this morning (Sun). You can go to Google.com and look at the cached site. Hope this helps Regards Lorraine Stacker Penrith Library http://www.sold.com.au - SOLD.com.au - Find yourself a bargain!
