    3. I am researching the West Family who came to Australia in 1821 on board the "Dick" ship. Benjamin was a pensioner on arrival but had served 21 years in the 48th foot regiment. Hi son William was the first postmaster at Wilberforce in NSW. Any assistance would be appreciated. Julie

    3. Hi Julie, If you wanted to find out about his involvement with the post office, you should try the National Archives. This is what I have in my notes from one of my Postmasters: " Postmaster-General's Department, State Administration, New South Wales (CA 1030), CA 1030 - C2919/2 Roll 4 Volumes 5 & 6 1880-1888, National Archives of Australia., (National Archives of Australia, (1880-1888).) Microfiche held at Chester Hill branch of National Archives of Australia.Post offices sorted by date of commission of the post office. Entries under each post office are in chronological order of appointment of postmaster." Find the post office when it was commissioned, and seeing as though William was first postmaster, you should find documents relating to him.
