Dear Peter, Noticed your e-mail re PROCTOR. There is a mention of a Private Proctor in one of our books, - World War 1 Hawkesbury Heroes (volume 2) - dont know if he is one of your group. We have extracted the article and printed it below, which originally appeared in the Windsor & Richmond Gazette newspaper, hope it is of interest, Peter. The books are available at the Hawkesbury (Windsor) and Penrith libraries and the Nepean FHS. Dateline ....25 July, 1919 Sgt. Allen & Ptes. Chalmers & Proctor Four soldiers were to have been welcomed at the Kenthurst School of Arts on Saturday night week, but only three were able to be present - Sgt. Allen and Ptes. Chalmers and Proctor. They were all old members of the Kenthurst Rifle Club, and were at the war about 3 years. The hall was nicely decorated by the Welcome Home Committee and the President, J. N. Griffin, occupied the chair. J. H. Cusbert presented to each soldier a suitably inscribed gold medal, a nice fat cheque, and the Baulkham Hills Shire certificate. Both these gentlemen warmly congratulated the returned soldiers on what they had done for the Empire and their country and for humanity. There was a large crowd present and the proceedings were most enthusiastic. After the principal business of the evening, the time was pleasantly spent till midnight in songs, games and dancing. Among those who assisted in the programme were Miss Rose Clements and S. A. Mawson, while Miss Thompson provided the music for the dance. It was one of the brightest little functions of the kind yet held at Kenthurst. A check in the Windsor & Richmond Gazette newspaper indexes for 1911-15 and 1916-20 for Andrew Thompson, and Hacket might be worthwhile, too Peter. Best wishes, Rod & Wendy Gow Peter John Proctor wrote: > Hi Does anyone have any information on Children of William Proctor and Emma Stanton: ****************************************************************************** Check out our home page for information on our latest newspaper indexing projects and works in progress at http://www3.ceinternet.com.au/~rgow Indexing newspapers - a fascinating hobby - why not index your local newspaper as a resource to other family history researchers. ******************************************************************************
