    2. Danielle E
    3. It's been great to see so much activity on the list these past few days. I thought I would just let listers know that Bigpond appears to be having further problems. I have had several error messages sent to me by Rootsweb and they've all involved bigpond.com email addresses. This mainly occurred on Friday 31 October and Saturday 1 November (and hopefully will have sorted itself out by now), so those of you who use bigpond may wish to check the archives for the Penrith Rootsweb list to see if there have been any postings you might have missed. The archives can be found at: http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/AUS-NSW-PENRITH/ Best wishes, Danielle Embleton List Administrator

    3. Thanks Pat - love to find the connections and read about families - my William came to Australia in 1816 on Ocean and lived at Richmond. His son, John, became the undertaker at Penrith. 3. Hello Pat, I was in Penrith recently and took a long walk through the cemetery, taking many photos for my family tree. I noticed there were a few 'Curry' gravesites. I, too, find the interconnections most fascinating. And I thank god for computers and the internet, where would we be without them? Kind regards Sharron

    3. Just realized I sent my previous e-mail to the list instead of to Chenelle as I had intended. I am also aware of the other, more well-known Price" family in Penrith that most other recent listers were referring to, and my husband also has some connections to them through intermarriage also. 3. My husband's family is connected to William Price through his daughter Mary Ann who married George Hollier, and then grand-daughters Amelia who married Hugh Curry and Rebecca Caroline who married Henry Byrnes. William's daughter Sarah Price married Noah Hollier, and then their son Ernest Albert Hollier married Edith Eliza Byrnes, sister of the Henry Byrnes above. Not sure if you know all these connections between the two families, and the Sutton ones also. I have always found the interconnections between local families quite fascinating. 3. Hi Listers, Very sorry to have to say this all again. Have discovered that Sophia Harriet Stewart, daughter of John STEWART and Letitia NEITH was born abt 1828 in South Creek, Penrith NSW. I cannot find any information on her parents or siblings James and Mary A (no surprise I guess it's "Ann"). I have checked the 1828 census and other documents at the State Library in Adelaide. They are listed, but there are not other details like occupation etc. Lynda

    3. Hello Sharron Yes I have 12 children but one of them. Thomas born c 809 Sydney died 1827 Parramatta is in dispute as he was not shown on the 1828 Census. I may eliminate him from the team. The 1814 General Muster showed 5 children off stores but there were eight - not including Thomas but including twins Ann and George born 13 March 1814. The twins would not have been living off stores at that early age I would think. (General Muster October 17th to November 16th 1814. Page 34) The General Muster of NSW 2nd Sept. to 13th Sept. 1822, Page 43, showed 9 children but there were 10 still not including Thomas. The General Musters of NSW 1823 to1825. Page 45 showed 8, but Margaret and Mary were married by then and Hannah was not born. So that makes 11, with no Thomas. Does any other Bolton folk have ideas on Thomas? Have I got any of the figures wrong? 3. NOTICE: This message is intended for the addressee named and may contain confidential or privileged information. If you are not the intended recipient, please notify the sender and delete the message. Views expressed in this message are those of the individual sender, and are not necessarily the views of the NSW Department of Mineral Resources. Hello all, I recently sent along the words of Charles Thomson Jnr's poem "Fair Castlereagh". Two people have since emailed me commenting on what a lovely poem it is, and one person was actually so wrapt in it that he said he was setting off to the library to try and find Thomson whole book of verse (He said he'd never known about Thomson before but thought he was a very interesting poet). Charles Thomson Jnr is taken to have been one of Fulton's brightest students at the classics-teaching Castlereagh Academy on the hill (presumably very close to the Anglican or general cemetery although not a trace of it remains today I think). One person has detailed to me why C Thomson Jnr was not "Australia's first native born published poet" but probably the second and that the first one was born on Norfolk Island, if we are to consider that as part of Australia. Mmmm, thanks for that information. Here is another poem below, written about a place that must be in England one presumes, which is at least a little like the "Fair Castlereagh" one (although my favorite poem remains as "Fair Castlereagh"). Kind Regards, John Byrnes ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ LINDEN LEA by William Barnes (1801-1886) 'Ithin the woodlands, flow'ry gleaded, By the woak tree's mossy moot, The sheenen grass-bleades, timber-sheaded, Now do quiver under voot: An' birds do whissle auver head, An' water's bubblen in its bed, An' there vor me the apple tree Do lean down low in Linden Lea. When leaves that leatley wer a-springen Now do feade 'ithin the copse, An' painted birds do hush their zingen Up upon the timber's tops: An' brown-leav'd fruit's a-turnen red, In cloudless zunsheen, auver head, Wi' fruit vor me, the apple tree Do lean down low in Linden Lea. Let other vo'k meake money vaster In the air o'dark-room'd towns, I don't dread a peevish measter: Though noo man do heed my frowns. I be free to goo abrode Or teake agean my homeward road To where, vor me, the apple tree Do lean down low in Linden Lea. (William Barnes wrote this quite obviously in his native Dorset dialect ....)
