This was so refreshing that I actually laughed and I'm pretty darn pleased the list received it in err but a few things need explaining to the mere layman like me - what pray tell is a "stick" and "knobkerrie" for as a keen family historian I may need this information for future reference. I was particularly disheartened to note the lack of any good knobkerrie in sight after telling my colleagues about its mystical powers! While I know there were other magnificent specimens of stick in attendance, they are just pale imitations! It was such a shock to my system that I had to retire to the safe haven at the Penrith RSL and fortify myself! I trust that in future years, the good honour and reputation of Zimbabwe will be restored by the appearance of your good self at this auspicious occasion. 3. Hi everyone This morning the Memories of War website which contains the Penrith District Honour Roll was officially launched at the Penrith RSL Club after the Remembrance Day ceremony this morning. The website has been operational for some time and in the past few months, we have added quite a few more biographies. At this stage we are researching the soldiers from the district who were killed during the war. However, if anyone has details of a WW1 returned soldier from our area, I would love to hear from you. The site can be viewed at: http://www.penrithcity.nsw.gov.au/history/war/warhome.htm At the going down of the sun And in the morning We will remember them Lest we forget Jan Herivel Penrith -----Original Message----- From: AUS-AIF-D-request@rootsweb.com [mailto:AUS-AIF-D-request@rootsweb.com] Sent: Monday, 10 November 2003 10:00 PM To: AUS-AIF-D@rootsweb.com Subject: AUS-AIF-D Digest V03 #81

Matthew & Sarah Walker lived in the Emu Plains area, they both died in the Penrith/Emu Plains area in 1859 & 1860. Jennifer Bruce in Dubbo

    3. Dear Listers, A suggestion when replying to messages posted to the Penrith Rootsweb list. When replying to a message, please include only the relevant part of the email you are answering and delete the rest of the email. Otherwise the email can end up rather long and the reader then has to go through the whole email to find the part that interests them. This can be a little frustrating for those who receive the postings to this list in digest form, or for those who are subscribed to a number of lists and receive a large number of emails each day. Many thanks, Danielle List Admin

    3. Hi Sue Under such circumstances I would have a look at the actual burial entry in the church register because it may just have more or different information. For example, my grandmother's NSW BDM marriage certificate does nor reveal her father's name but the church register does. I suppose it all depends on how keen you are to find any answers. Another possibility is approaching all living descendants to see if they know anything or hold any old papers/certificates/photos. Doing this solved an adoption issue for us. If you think there is a chance that descendants still live in the Liverpool area, then send a "Letter to the Editor" of the local newspaper. All the best with your research Grahame on 7/11/03 8:02 PM, Sue Adamson at mosessue@tpg.com.au wrote: > > Hi Grahame, > > l have no info on the adopted son. 3. Hi Grahame, l have no info on the adopted son. He was the informant on his ' adopted ' Fathers death cert. It's like these people didn't exist. The death cert for John BAINES has heaps of info on it. But nothing gels. It states where he was married and to whom, but no registration. It states there were three living males to the marriage, but no name's and nothing l can find in the States for registration of these births. It states that J. BAINES adopted son was the informant. But can't find anything on him. It states that John BAINES was buried in St. Lukes Liverpool [ which is now a memorial garden ]. But in the list of gravestones prior to it becoming a memorial garden he is not on it. I'm open to any suggestions Sue Hi Sue Re Q 1, have a look at the following web site. http://www.liverpool.nsw.gov.au/info/ldfhs.htm Re Q 2, Even today there are Parish Registers, but generally speaking there is no single repository. The location of registers tends to depend on the religion eg RC, Methodist, C 0f E etc. For example most NSW Methodist registers are in the NSW State Library.
