Hi Lyn, I can understand that some replies can stray from the original purpose of a thread and be of little or no relevence to the particular list, but in the main I would have thought that most replies remain within the bounds of the list's charter. The problem is that if everyone only replies to the individual writer then the rest of us may miss vital snippets of information which are clues to our own families and their background. And isn't that what joining these lists are all about, panning for gold and discarding most material for a glimpse of the precious? I do know that in replying to the list, that it is list etiquette to clip previous message content to only the essential information to which we are replying. May Christmas and the New Year be joyous and peaceful to all of our list contributors. I am looking for any Balleines who emigrated to Australia in the 1900s. I have been working on this tree for a number of years and those who left the Island of Jersey are difficult to trace. If some kind soul is aware of any by that name I would appreciate it very much Ed
Lorraine... is the weight of the baby correct... 14 kgs is one BIG baby... bloody Hell... if that is correct my sympathies (as well as congratulations) to Danielle and her husband. ----- Original Message ----- From: Lorraine Stacker <lstacker2001@yahoo.com.au> To: <AUS-NSW-PENRITH-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, December 20, 2003 6:59 PM Subject: [AUS-NSW-PENRITH] Danielle Embleton > Not sure if people knew, but my staff member Danielle Embleton administers > this rootsweb list. Merry and Hot Xmas to all!!!......while I can understand Lyn Fordes comment on recieving emails with no family connection.....I have found it quite interesting as there is much more can be learnt from peoples interaction via this site. Sometimes it can be of help and sometimes not.....or someone may just mention the missing link that someone may be looking for even down a different line than being researched...even in regards to goegraphical locations etc.or even mention a surname that has a connection to a family though not necessarily related....eg.witness at a marriage etc. Have done a small amount of family research and have a basic idea of the whos and wheres, but like many , I would imagine just don't get enough time to follow up. I came across an interesting site the other day with the first " different "information I have been able to find on a great, great etc. grandparent in Mudgee who is also mentioned on the Penrith Members interests site. The Greville's 1872 Post Office Directory showed a Peter Faucett a carpenter of Short Street , Mudgee. If this is the same relative I am researching ( or could be his son ? ), he was married to a Sarah Hart and apparently came from Sweden and I think were married at Castlereagh. One of their children Josephine married Henry Bisby at Mudgee. They had a daughter Josephina who was my grandmother who married Paul malitz from Germany ?They ran what is now known as Bleak house in Mudgee as a guest or boarding house in the early 1900"s.( It was known also at some stage as Loneragans ? house ) Also found on this list what I think to be a relative of my husbands being John Denison an innkeeper at Gulgong. This Jack or John ? Denison may have also opened the first bark hut PUB! at Sofala of which we have a photograph in the 1850's and called the Blacklead Hotel if I recall rightly. Possibly I am crossing into different areas other than the Penrith Members interests....however people seemed to move around a bit at times in those days sometimes.........Thanks everyone ! a bit long ....just making up for all the times I meant to but didn't................Jan Denison Maybe I'm the last to know and you all knew already !!!! but the site is ...... http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/%7Ehcastle/grevilles/grevilles.html If anyone has any info on my man from Sweden / Peter Faucett or Sarah Hart it would be appreciated ----- Original Message ----- From: "Lyn Forde" <lynforde@yahoo.com.au> To: <AUS-NSW-PENRITH-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, December 21, 2003 4:29 PM Subject: [AUS-NSW-PENRITH] Replies to emails > --0-953383106-1071984563=:87572 > Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii > Content-Id: > Content-Disposition: inline > > Hi everyone, I would appreciate it if you are > answering a certain email that you only use that > emailer's address. Hi everyone Does any one have a Margaret Connors (nee Longobardi) who married Elijah Maidens in Jan 1934 at the Penrith Court House? Margaret was resident at Blaxland at the time and later moved to Cremorne where she died in 1936. Any assistance greatly appreciated Jan Herivel
Hi Ken, Unfortunately, I don't think there is any connection between your Chandlers and mine. I have been right through my lists and have not come across the name. In addition, the area is unusual for my family. They all settled in very close proximity of the central west, ie Wellington, Bathurst, Cowra, Grenfell and Forbes area. Ned from this list wanted me to forward a listing of people worldwide researching the name Chandler, it may help you in your quest. Another avenue for information is, I belong to a one-name list for CHANDLER at s-chandler@british-genealogy.com and Dick Chandler now living in Canada (who is the list administrator) is very knowlegeable about Chandler research, especially in the UK. (Robert Heal please note also). Thank you all for your response and have a wonderful holiday season and a fabulous New Year! Hi Marlene My name is Ken Farlow and my mother was born Chandler. I have had great difficulty tracing the tree as the family has been very hush-hush. Best I have is Richard Edward Chandler Born: 16 May 1874 Maitland NSW Australia Christened: Occupation:13 Oct 1915 Maclean NSW Professional Fisherman Died: 16 Aug 1942 Grafton NSW Australia Buried: 18 Aug 1942 Maclean NSW Australia His parents are James Chandler and Annie Undery? If you have any Chandler families in the Maitland or Grafton area please let me know. Hi All, I'm new to this list and researching my Chandler descendants. I have quite a lot of the 'skeleton' of their lives, but would like to 'flesh out' my knowledge of their life and times. (Hope I'm not asking too much!) In any case, Edward Chandler and Sarah Mepham Huggett arrived Sydney on the 'Strathfieldsaye' with two small children 27 July 1839. They were agricultural workers from Sussex and their first position seems to be with Sir John Jamieson at Regentville. Census 1841 has them living on the estate with a boarder and fellow shepherd and five children (three were theirs by this time). They had moved to Richmond by 1844 where the next two children were baptised. I would like to know (1) if anyone else is researching this family in particular? (2) if anyone else has families who lived and worked at the Regentville estate? and/or (3) if anyone can give me some insight into how their lives might have been on the estate in general? Would it have been the usual practice for Jamison and other large landholders to employ such workers before they left England, or was it something they had to negotiate on arrival? I'm trying to get an idea of what happened when they set foot in Port Jackson. Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer. Marlene Camden
Hi Patrick Yes it is, you might also like to try the Hawkesbury list as well. Londonderry while being part of the Penrith local government area is closer to Richmond and Windsor in the Hawkesbury and has many links with these towns as well. Hi Dawn, Your best source of information on Penrith cemeteries is from the Nepean Family History Society. They have transcribed all of the cemeteries in the Penrith area.
