Hi, Finally having some luck with ancestor Michael McCormick married to Catherine Murphy 1876. My cousin found his death in 1901 at the Liverpool Asylum and I found the shipping record for him. He arrived in 1874 on the Jerusalem from Ireland, parents Michael and Jane nee Wyre but the record states that he had a sister, Mary Greenham, in Parramatta. Now of course, I'm looking for a Mary Greenham to fit into the puzzle. I would be glad to hear from someone who has connections with these people. Cheers, Laraine Goodworth
Hi and thanks to all that replied to my Regentsville enquiry. I'm sure the information will be helpful in my Murphy research. Cheers, Laraine Goodworth
Hi Laraine Your Murphy family were probably tenant farmers at Regentville for a land owner in the district. Sir John Jamison had substantial land there, and at Jamisontown. He died in 1844 and his land was gradually sold off. Many local farmers and investors, like the York brothers purchased large areas and cut the land up into small farms and rented them out. Information on Sir John Jamison is at www.penrithcity.nsw.gov.au/history/ biographies/Jamison.htm Information on Regentville is at www.penrithcity.nsw.gov.au/Lib/ LocalSuburbs/regentville.htm It is advisable to have a look at the local history Dharug and Dungaree (1988) by Murray and White. It gives a good overview of the history of the area until 1860 and a great deal on Sir John. It looks like the penrithcity site is down this morning (Sun). You can go to Google.com and look at the cached site. Hope this helps Regards Lorraine Stacker Penrith Library http://www.sold.com.au - SOLD.com.au - Find yourself a bargain!
Dear Judy, The obituary you mentioned for James Roberts is in the Windsor & Richmond Gazette of 1 December 1900, on page 6 column 4. The newspaper is available on micro film at the Windsor Library and other places. We are currently indexing this newspaper but the year 1900 is a way down the track at the moment. We have done a little work on the year 1900 but have not yet checked the entry locations. We are about to release (next week) the 1916-1920 index to births deaths marriages inquests obituaries probates etc, then we intend to work back in time, with luck to 1888. So thought we would let you know the location of the article you mentioned. Just looking at the file it would appear that he celebrated his 90th birthday just a few weeks earlier as there is mention of that in the edition of 22 Sept 1900 page 4 column 1 and again in the edition 29 September 1900 page 13 column 1. In volume 1 of World War 1 Hawkesbury Heroes, a book we published last November (volume 2 is in the final stages of production) there are the following mentions of the surname ROBERTS - (Windsor library has copies ) ..... Roberts A A Roberts Ada Miss Roberts George Roberts J Roberts James Roberts John Joseph Pte Roberts Miss Roberts Mr Roberts Percy Hope this is of some assistance, Judy. Best wishes Rod & Wendy Gow Judy Coppini wrote: > Could somebody help me with the family of James Roberts of Pitt Town Road, Pitt Town. Could somebody help me with the family of James Roberts of Pitt Town Road, Pitt Town. He had a large family who seemed to all live on his land when he died. Hi fellow researchers, John Murphy and Anne nee Tracey married in Sydney but were living at Regentville, Penrith in 1858 and 1866 and 1868 where several of their children were born. Now I've found a few Murphy deaths in Regentville between 1850 and 1862 (not with the above parents) and wondered what would have attracted the Murphys' or anyone else there. I hope that someone will be able to satisfy my curiousity. Thanks in advance. Cheers, Laraine Goodworth
Hi Laraine I am related to Jane Lander's (L'Andre) - her sister Mary L'Andre who married William Stepehenson. I am in contact with a woman who is directed related to Jane - I will forward your email to her (I am not sure if she subscribes to this list) and have no doubt she will be in contact with you. Regards Mary Roose
Hi, I'm hoping that someone may be researching the Francis family. I have John marrying Jane Landers/ Landrin in Castlereagh in 1828. I also have Thomas Francis marrying Honora (Nora) Collins at St Johns, Parramatta, NSW in 1801. I don't know if John and thomas are related or not and was hoping that someone may be able to help me with information about them. Cheers, Laraine Goodworth
Hi all the honor roll can be accessed at: http://www.penrithcity.nsw.gov.au/history/war/ww1deaths.htm - this is the listing of all known soldiers who died during WW1 and had an affiliation with the Penrith district. It is still a work in progress with biographies being added as we find the information. If there is someone that you feel should be included, please email me. the second part is a section on the war memorials/honor rolls in the district. Some history is given, and a listing of names. Again this is a work in progress with a lot more information to be included. I have started with the smaller and less known memorials http://www.penrithcity.nsw.gov.au/history/war/warmemorials.htm Any feedback greatly appreciated Jan Herivel -----Original Message----- From: Barbara Wassenberg [mailto:wisard@froggy.com.au] Sent: Thursday, 1 August 2002 7:11 PM To: AUS-NSW-PENRITH-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [AUS-NSW-PENRITH] penrith district honour roll HI list is the penrith district honour roll available on line to look at? Hi all Just an update on the WW1 Penrith District Honor Roll Project - during the past few weeks I have completed a few more of the biographies. I have an image of John William Gardiner to load on to his page as well. Additionally I have updated the War Memorials page which now has the listings from honor rolls at St Stephen's and some other local churches. It is still a work in progress and has been made easier by the contributions of some of the list members - Jacquie Christensen, Pat Curry and Annette Lennon-Fitch. Thanks to all. Best wishes Jan Herivel

Hi Julie, If you wanted to find out about his involvement with the post office, you should try the National Archives. This is what I have in my notes from one of my Postmasters: " Postmaster-General's Department, State Administration, New South Wales (CA 1030), CA 1030 - C2919/2 Roll 4 Volumes 5 & 6 1880-1888, National Archives of Australia., (National Archives of Australia, (1880-1888).) Microfiche held at Chester Hill branch of National Archives of Australia.Post offices sorted by date of commission of the post office. Entries under each post office are in chronological order of appointment of postmaster." Find the post office when it was commissioned, and seeing as though William was first postmaster, you should find documents relating to him. Hi Julie, Did your West family mainly stay around the Wilberforce area? Or did they spend some of their time in the Penrith region? If it was mainly Wilberforce, you might like to send an email to the Hawkesbury-Hunter-Hills list to see if anyone else is researching the West family.
