Cindy, My ancestors Joseph and Alice ALLEN held a licence for the Settlers Arms corner of Lord and Brown Streets from 1855 to Joseph's death in 1858. Alice was granted the licence in 1860. This hotel was replaced by the Courthouse Hotel later in the 1800's. Joseph was a convict from Hertfordshire and Alice ne McNally a daughter of a convict from Ireland. Joseph was buried in Dungog cemetery where there still exists a readable headstone.
