G'day Everyone, This is my first time on this list and I was hoping someone could help me find whatever happened to my ancestor Michael Murray and his daughter Ellen Jackson (nee Murray). Michael Murray b.Kilcork, Ireland in 1816 - m: Catherine McGovern in England 1836. The family, 2 adults & 4 children, arrived in Sydney on the 'Elizabeth' as assisted immigrants in 1844. His daughter Catherine and his wife, Catherine both drowned near Summer Island on the Macleay River in 1865. His youngest daughter, Ellen m: my g.grandfather, Ezekiel Jackson in 1866, Macleay River, but we have no further records of him after that. We have checked almost every Michael Murray on the NSWBDM without success (just a lot of copies of transcriptions), checked as many cemeteries as possible for a headstone or record without any luck. The only other explanation is that maybe he returned to England after the loss of his wife and daughter, Catherine. His other daughter, my g.grandmother, Ellen Jackson was last heard of when she gave birth to triplets at Skillion Flat, Macleay River, in 1875. There was a mention of a Coroners' report in the Maitland Mercury in June 1875, on two of the infants, but no actual report was found as the records somehow have not survived. Ellen also disappeared from records from that year, and again, she has not been found on the NSWBMD, nor was her third child. Just as a footnote, her husband, Ezekiel disappeared as well, but ended up back in Maine, USA, where he remarried in 1895 stating he was a widow. At this rate I should be able to build myself a fort with the amount of brick walls I keep running into. If anyone has a suggestion to where I can go from here, I would very much appreciate it. Regards, Yvonne PMcQ
