    3. Rhodes Redevelopment - Please forward to all environmental groups, media and people who drive over Ryde Bridge There is a huge redevelopment proposed for the Rhodes Peninsula near the Olympic site and Homebush Bay (Sydney, Australia). See http://drive.to/rhodes There are huge problems with contamination of Homebush Bay, the former Allied Feeds site (owned by a company in the BT funds management group) the former Union Carbide site (now apparently controlled by the NSW government) and the former CSR Chemicals and Berger Paints sites (now apparently owned by Orica a public listed company). http://freepages.houses.rootsweb.com/~pmh1/Contamination.htm There will also be almost unbelievable problems with traffic across Ryde Bridge and for residents of and workers in Rhodes. http://freepages.houses.rootsweb.com/~pmh1/Traffic.htm The Bicentennial Park and Newington wetlands are potentially threatened as there is no Riparian Protection Zone proposed, even though it is NSW government policy. These wetland are populated by species supposedly protected under the JAMBA and CAMBA treaties. http://freepages.houses.rootsweb.com/~pmh1/wetland.htm DUAP's plans include putting 6,000 residents within 500 metres of the most sewerage polluted part of Sydney harbour, Homebush Bay. http://freepages.houses.rootsweb.com/~pmh1/Sewerage.htm Remediation is proposed to be carried out using "new" technology, but DUAP, the site owners and Waterways have declined to engage the local community in discussions about remediation and how the health of the local community will be protected during remediation. There is no "safe" level for dioxin. The already gazetted plan involves an incredible overdevelopment of the site compared to other developments in Sydney. There are inadequate facilities to support a development of this scale in the area and there is no provision presently for pre-schools, primary schools, high school places, policing, active recreation and the like. http://freepages.houses.rootsweb.com/~pmh1/Overdevelopment.htm This development is as irresponsible as the Waterways allowing the dumping of materials from Union Carbide into Homebush Bay in the first place.
