My g-g-grandfather, Richard Payne, arrived as a convict in Australia, and after seven years, was released. He eventually made his home in Grafton and was a member of the first municipal council of Grafton in 1859. I have contacted the Clarence River Historical Society, as well as Grafton Council to see if there are any photos of the first council but have had no success. I know it's a long shot, but would really appreciate hearing from anyone else whose ancestors were part of the council, and possibly have a photograph in their possession. Louise Zontek
