Dear Ken and Vivienne, There is a book titled "Milk for the Metropolis- a century of co-operative milk supply in New South Wales" by Jan Todd, printed in 1994, that may be worth a look at. Also another book by the same author titled "More Than Milk" printed in 2001, mentions a Spencer Hicks. From the "Milk for the Metropolis" is the following .... ".... During the months of April and May, 1894, the comparative merits of co-operation and private enterprise were debated as never before. But private enterprise was the quicker. Suppliers were won, separating stations erected and a central factory built at Lismore before the North Coast Fresh Food and Cold Storage Co-operative Co. Ltd. (Norco) formed in October, 1894. Its plans for a central factory at Byron Bay set the scene for a struggle for many years. ...." Hope the above is of some interest.
