I am researching a branch of my Hartley family who moved to the North Coast around 1912. Henry Hartley and his wife Elizabeth (nee Mather) came from Yorkshire around 1882 to Leichhardt with their sons John Henry Hartley and Edwin Mather Hartley & perhaps a daughter Elizabeth. John Henry Hartley married Mary E Pearson in Leichhardt in 1905 and had the following chn: Henry John b. 1906 Leichhardt may have married Jean Betty Macauley in Auburn in 1943 Charles Edwin b. 1910 Leichhardt married Ivy May Stanlan in Coffs harbour in 1940 Muriel b. 1912 Bellingen married Albert Richard Hooton in Parramatta in 1934 Elva Ellen b. 1913 Bellingen married Horace Alan Watt in Coffs Harbour in 1937 Nellie Ruthetta b. 1917 Bellingen married Herbert A. Shephard in Coffs Harbour in 1937. Henry Hartley was the brother of my great great grandfather Samuel Hartley. Samuel Hartley's son Frederick came to Australia with his family including my grandmother Susannah in 1907. It is only by the greatest co-incidence that I have become aware of the existence of Henry's family on the North Coast as for some reason this was not family knowledge. All we have is a letter from "cousin" Edwin on active service in WW1 in Egypt in 1916 to my grandmother's sister Emily. I would really like to find out more about this branch and also pass on all my research on our Hartleys stretching back into the 1700s in England.
