Hi List, I recently obtained a transcription of my grandfather`s brother`s death on 4th July 1875, hoping to also find out where he is buried. He died on Palmer`s Island - accidentally drowned, age 3 - but all the cert. says is that he was buried 6th July at Maclean. His name was John Frederick SOMMER, son of John Frederick SOMMER and Eliza nee WEBB, the undertaker was Joseph BRATFIELD, and the witnesses were William McRAE and Thomas WRIGHT. Can anyone tell me where he is likely to be buried, please? TIA Carol in Sydney
Hi Carol - I imagine you would have to check church records - hopefully another Lister can tell you exactly how to do that. Are you familiar with the region??? Maclean is not far from Palmers Island from memory . Palmers Island is one of the many islands on the Clarence near Maclean. Maclean would have had an established little town at that time as it is right on the River and all services were by boat.- I grew up on the Clarence River near Grafton.
