    3. Hello, I am trying to contact any descendants of Michael Murray and his wife Catherine McGovern who lived in the Port Macquarie and Kempsey area from 1844. Michael and Catherine were originally from Ireland and married in England. They arrived in Sydney in 1844 with a family of four (Mary Ann b.1837, Elizabeth b.1839, William J b.1841 and Mary b.1843) and went directly to Port Macquarie then Kempsey where another 6 children were born (Catherine b.1844,Ellen b.1846, John b.1848, Jacob b.1853, Thomas b.1854 and Michael b.1857). Michael's wife and daughter (Catherine) were drowned in the Macleay River in 1865 and he disappears after that time. Despite numerous attempts to locate a death for Michael he has proved most elusive. Any help with findimg out what happened to Michael would be appreciated, especially a date and place of death. Regards...Rex Toomey Port Macquarie

    2. david hatherell
    3. G'day, I am a volunteer assisting a French museum in their research on the Allied airmen who lost their lives in their area during WW2. One of them is an Albert GRAND 1920-1942, a native of Casino NSW. A fellow researcher tells me that Grand features in a publication: Honour Roll WW2 Casino and Bonalbo Districts. Maybe this is a book or CD? Does any lister have access to this item, please? It might be too good to be true that someone has him on their tree. So just in case, he was the son of Abijah John and Margaret May GRAND, and he had a sister, Ruby who married SCHUBERT Cheers Dave Hatherell (in the bleak UK midwinter) daveandsusan@dhatherell.fsnet.co.uk

    1. HICKSON: Macleay/Frederickton
    2. Jenny
    3. I am researching the family of Peter and Hannah HICKSON [HIGSON] who arrived aboard AGNES in 1842 and settled in the Macleay area. In all the couple had seven children, four of which were born in Australia. Peter [senior] died in 1847, six weeks before the birth of his son Peter junior. Cause of death is unknown. I am currently following up a possible second marriage of Hannah to Henry BATTERSON an ex convict. If anyone is researching either of these lines or has any information on the familes, I would love to hear from your and exchange information. Name variations include HIXON HIXSON and HIGSON. Known children are:[some information is unconfirmed] HICKSON/HIXSON/HIXON: Thomas Henry, born 9th July, 1837 Bolton Le Moors, Lancashire. Married Ann Fogarty 10th November 1856 at Kempsey. Hickson/HIXON: Mary B, born 15th June, 1838 Bolton Le Moors. Married Edward B Woolmer, Macleay River 1857 Hickson: Jane B born, 16th January, 1841 Bolton Le Moors. Married William Samuel Miles, Macleay River, 1860. Hickson: Alice Louisa, born 16th February, 1843 Macleay River. Married Alfred Wallace A Smith, Newtown 1873 Hickson: Benjamin, born 20th June, 1845 Macleay River. Married Martha Hinder at Macleay River, 1871. It appears they had no children. Benjamin died at Kempsey in 1925 Martha died at Kempsey in 1908. Hickson: Sarah Ann, born 27th August 45/46 St Thomas' Port McQuarrie. In 1862 she married Thomas Arthur Jerrett. 1. RE: Verge property
    2. Catherine Frendo
    3. Dear Beryl, The Verge Estate was located on the banks of the Macleay River adjacent to Gladstone, Smithtown, Kempsey and Frederickton wharves. Kempsey railway and town was six miles from the property. The auction for the Austral Eden farms were for sale by auction 23rd March 1918 when 67 lots were being sold and there were other auctions between 1917 and 1920's. The area is to the west of where the Belmore River meets the Macleay River. Hope the above gives you some idea of where the area was. 3. Beryl, I Suggest you contact the Macleay River Historical Society at Kempsey. They will most likely be able to help you find the property and probably provide other information.
