    1. Interesting book on life in the North Coast are of NSW
    2. Maureen
    3. Hi list, I thought I had better ask first before posting the information on this book. I have just finished reading a book by Warren Keats on his families early life in the Casino/Lismore/Tweed areas. It was such a good read, I lent it to my sister who is an avid reader and she couldnt put it down. Warren is the brother of Norman Keats who wrote "Wollumbin", so if anybody is interested in the name of this book just let me know. It highlights the lives of Sara Davenport and Ebenezer Keats and is based on fact. Regards Maureen

    2. Maureen
    3. Hi all, I have the death certificate of John Jordan who married Celia Dolan in 1842, his parents were John Jordan and Mary either Hearn or Fearn(illegible) . I am wondering if he is linked with the Jordan family from the Casino area. Celia's sister married a Henry Savage and I dont have much more information on him. If anybody is familiar with these names from the North Coast area I would love to hear from you. Maureen

Original owners Clay & Stapleton (Cassino Station) and then Clark Irving who changed the name to Tomki. Links for Casino... http://www.rootsweb.com/~nswcdfhg/Index.html & http://www.rootsweb.com/~nswcdhs/Index.html Coraki... http://www.rootsweb.com/~nswcdfhg/Mid-Richmond_Historical_Society_Inc.html If you have time, you should pop across to the Richmond River Historical Society in Lismore. 2. Maureen
    3. Hi, my sister and I are going to Casino, Tomki and Coraki on Thursday and friday and I was wondering if anybody could recommend good areas to research. Our grandfather was a master mariner with the North Coast Steam Ship Company and sailed the northern rivers from 1880 to 1925 so we are primarily looking for information on him, but also Pratt and Newstead families. We also have McNabb and Pratt lineage in this area. One of our Newstead was a coach driver and his brother ran a bakery in the area. Any advice would be greatfully accepted. Maureen

    2. Joy Richens
    3. Hi. When I lived in Bellingen the local paper was "The Bellinger Courier Sun" (1945-1966) and a check of the website indicates it still is. Note Bellingen is on the Bellinger River, hence the difference in spelling. Joy

    2. Hi Roseanne, There was a paper called 'The Bellinger Courier Sun' back in 1983 (have an article from it) also the 'Don Dorrigo' could be an alternate. The 'Coffs Harbour Advocate' is another one I'm familiar with Also try this site it lists newspapers nationally so you may pick something up from here. http://www.thepaperboy.com.au Good luck in your search. 1. Inquiry Re: Maher and Yeark Families
    2. Jan Mumford
    3. Dear All I am trying to find some information with regard to the Maher family. I am researching the Mumford family tree and the name Maher has come up with a relative dead end so to speak. I have done my reseach by interviewing my mother in law and Births Deaths and Marriages on the net. I have reached a deadend here, but could go further when I obtain certificates but maybe someone out there can help me. My husbands great grandmother is Elizabeth Ann Maher b 12/4/1891 married George T J Smith 1917 had George, Jim and Irene. She then married Edgar Bertram Roy Hamilton Blanch 1919 had Edna, Hilda and Rita twins, Edgar Joseph, Ann and Robert William. I have seen her birth certificate and she was born at Mondrook and registered at Taree Elizabeth Ann Maher's parents were James Maher and Elizabeth Ann Smaills. She has a sister Jessie born 1893. Their mother died in childbirth after Jessie and the children were separated never to see each other again, or their father or so the family story goes. Elizabeth was raised by the Bloomfield family at Mitchells Island. I don't know where Jessie went and would love to find out. >From BDM I have found James Maher married Elizabeth Smaills (g-g grandmother)1889. But I cannot find her birth details in the many entries for Smaills at Taree. I feel that she belongs to this family as there is a Jessie Jemima Smaills born 1879 and that maybe she named one of her daughters after her. I am surmising, hopefully correctly. The name Holdern comes up in family stories and one of Elizabeth Smaills sisters married a Holdern, so I feel that maybe Jessie went to live with them. From BDM I have found that she married an Alfred Yeark and had a daughter Edna. From discussions with the Yeark family I believe this marriage did not last. From this point I am leaping into guessing land. From BDM I can find Jessie Yeark married Ernest Smith in 1932 and/or Jessie Yeark to Norman C P Parnell in Taree in 1919. I cannot find a marriage for Edna under the name of Yeark, but there is a listing for Edna M Parnell marrying a John F Denny In 1935 at Lismore. If there is any one who can help me clarify the family story I would love to hear from you. My husbands grandmother is still alive and for her I would like to tell her about Jessie as her mother wondered what happened to her I hope this has been easy to enough to understand. I look forward to your replies. Jan Mumford Nee Carpenter
