    3. Researching John McDonald and Mary Ann Eliza Tutt (1859- 1927) [daughter of James & Sarah Tutt nee Jenner]) married Glen Innes 29 Jan 1879. Blair Hill, Wellingrove and Ben Lomond are referenced in children's births. I have only sparse details on John McDonald and as it is a common name am unable to make any headway. Would be pleased if anyone has any details at all regarding these families and beyond. They had a daughter (my grandmother) Frances Elizabeth McDonald (1880-1968) who married Frederick Lewis (1870-1935) in 1896 - Frederick died in Emmaville. I do not have any details regarding Frederick (or beyond other than his parents names - Margaret Gillis & Charles Lewis from his marriage certificate) or why he was in Emmaville. They had 10 children - 4 dying in infancy - looking for any information whatsoever. I have hit a brick wall and would be grateful for any information or a pointing in the right direction. Christine E Lewis in mild Sydney

    1. NANCE of Kempsey
    2. John Nance
    3. Listers, I would like to hear from anyone who has any information about the Nance families who moved from Sydney to West Kempsey around the 1860's or 1870's. I have found them listed in a Post office Directory for 1875-76 as residing at Commandant Hill, West Kempsey and other Nance's at Kempsey and East Kempsey. The father, Thomas, emigrated from Cornwall in 1844 with his wife Elizabeth, and two of his sons (John and Thomas) moved to Kempsey with their dad. I think that John may have been the Mayor of Kempsey around the turn of the century (1900). I would love to hear from anyone who may be able to fill in the gaps and/or confirm the above details. Thanks John Nance (GG Grandson of Thomas)

You might find the comprehensive list of publications at the Australian War Memorial site helpful. Some of the books would no doubt be in your local library. Select the "Discover Australia's Military History" link at http://www.awm.gov.au/ and then the "Second World War 1939-45" link - scroll to the end and select the "Reading List" which requires Acrobat. Rootsweb have an AUS-MILITARY mail list. Its archives for 1999 & 2000 can be searched by entering the list name at: http://searches2.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl and then a query such as "Volunteer", "Land Army" or whatever. It is a case of horses for courses. Such questions are better directed to where answers may be forthcoming. John Brisbane
