1. could some kind soul with access to Valley of the Crooked River please let me know the information that it has on the marriage of Bertha Davis to Robert White? 2. George Jarrett married Lucy C. White in 1896. Does anyone have any information on Lucy C. White - is she of the same family that Bertha married into? I can't find a Lucy C. in the BDMs around the right time. (My father, Tom Davis, and ggrandson of Edward (1) of Nambucca, met my stepmother 45 odd years ago when she was a young thing from Sydney on a weekend holiday. Her name was Jarrett, she only mentioned to me a few months ago that the family originally came from Bellingen, and now we are just finding out that it may be that the families were connected for generations before.) 3. This is entirely unconnected, but does anyone know anything of an aboriginal family named Waddy around the Nambucca area? Leith Davis Senior Policy Adviser ForestrySA Tel: (08) 8303 9966

Don't forget to search for cemetery and Bowra and your ancestors name using the yellow search box on Bellingen Gen Web. There is a partial listing of burials for Bowraville, but they are, I think, later than the one you might be seeking, but you might find another family member. Cheers Paul Hanly If any of your family is on the North Coast of NSW you should also look at Bellingen Gen Web: http://www.rootsweb.com/~nswbelli/ . Hi all Have just joined this list and am seeking information on the very early days of Port Macquarie circa 1823 when I believe members of the 42nd Reg (the Buffs) were posted there to supervise the convicts sent from Newcastle and Sydney. One of the marines may have been a Corporal Richard Murphy (wife Alice Unknown maiden name) . I don't have any other info on him, other than a possible daughter Mary Anne who (may have) married my gg grandfather Henry Rowley. I am hoping to confirm (or otherwise) this information, so any help would be appreciated. Other names I am researching John(Thomas) & Margaret DONNELLY(pre 1863); Frederick William MEARS (1838-1921); John CRANE m Susannah KERR (1834 before and after) Robert PEGLER (before 1848) Robert NAY/NEY ( 1832 to 1870) ROWLEY (1791 - 1900) Mary Jane NELSON (b c 1826 Kissing Point Ryde m c 1840 Charles Shepherd; m c 1845 ? Lewis - info after that is OK); Pat W.

Patrick DALY died 18JAN1914, and was buried in Lismore Cemetery. He was born in Co. Cork in 1837, and arrived in Sydney in 1839 aboard the "Navarino". His early life was sent at "Wallaby Hill", Jamberoo, prior to his marriage to Margaret WALSH on 24FEB1868 at Nowra. He subsequently farmed at Harley Hill, between Gerringong and Berry, before moving to the Richmond with some of his family early this century. I would love to make contact with any descendants of this family (Patrick and Margaret had 11 children), or with anyone researching the family. I would also appreciate it if anyone could check the local newspapers for an obituary. Copying and postage costs gladly refunded. (Awarded Certicicate of Merit). ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ EXPLANATION OF THE SOCIETY'S CERTIFICATE OF MERIT. The central figure in the design of the certificate is that of a woman, gracious yet resolute, who typifies the Society and its work. Her right hand rests upon the head of a ragged little orphan child, who is still frightened by the roar of the waves from which she has been plucked, buries her face in her protectors skirts. Standing firmly above the surging ocean on solid rock, the woman stretches forth her left hand to place a laurel wreath upon the head of the brave, which wreath she lightly rests upon a lifebouy encircling the Society's medal. As background to the allegorical figure is a breadth of angry grey-green sea, above which the blackness of the threatening sky is relieved only by a far distant gleam of light on the extreme verge of the horizion. A ship with rent sails and shattered masts is struggling in the surf. Upon the high rocks, dimly visible amidst the spray, is a crowd of fisherman whose efforts to fire a life-line from shore to ship has just been crowned with success. The side of the picture on which the figure stands represents an altogether clearer and brighter scene than that which illustrates the storm and wreck, terminating at its base with a moderately calm sea, with Father Neptunes head appearing out of the foam, with uplifted arm, Trident in hand, looking up to the figure with approving admiration of her noble work. At the rear of the picture is a ships mast, with a much used anchor, both exemplifying the standing of the Society and its work in the past. A cable rope surrounds the designe, and the whole is borderd with small sea shells. Please note these are the words printed on the back of the booklet, not my words. I tried to scan a copy of this into the computer so as to share it with any who want it, but it didn't work. but if you are interested please forward a business size SEA to K Kingston PO Box 3012 Lismore D.C. Lismore 2480 NSW I will be happy to post out photocopies. regards KK........ PS all the typing errors are mine.

Hi, Was there someone wanting last month some information re volunteer Defence. i came across this item in the Bournewood book " VOLUNTEER DEFENCE CORPS. When Japan entered the war and the possibility of an Australian invasion arose, the Volunteer Defence Corps was formed. 41 men from Yeoval and surrounding districts enlisted for the formation of the Yeoval platoon. They were trained in guerilla warfare to do mainly night raids and then carry on their usual daytime activities.. Those that could get away attended a 10 day course in explosives at Bathurst6. The Platoon was assigned to go to Newcastle at a moments notice thinking that the invasion would take place there. Fortunately they were not called upon to carry out any active duty......" Hope that gives you an insight ,,,,regards......Warren
