Hi All, I am trying to find any ancestors of George Champion born 1831 Hinton St.George, Somerset and Elizabeth Sarah Robinson born 1832 Dublin, Ireland. The main reason for this particular search is to try and find anyone who can help identify photos in an album dating back to the 1870's and believed to have belonged to one of the above. Other names associated with the Champion family are : Wildman, McDonald, Campbell, Blakers, Shearer, Ford, Hughes and Cowdroy. Eight of George and Elizabeth's children were born in the Grafton and Ulmarra areas. The album was passed on to me but there is nothing in it to say who was the original owner or who the people are in the photos. The album came from one of George and Elizabeth's daughters Sarah. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Judy. --------------------------------- Powered by http://www.telstra.com
Hi everyone, I have joined this particular list to see if I can trace an elusive grandparent - she was supposedly an illegitimate child born to a Margaret CROSS at Spencers Gully, Inverell, on 15 November 1892, and was named Ethel May. There was no mention of a father. We can find no birth for her (and no marriage either, but that's another story!), and have looked in New South Wales and Queensland for this. I don't think she would have been born in another state, but nothing is impossible, I guess. I have also checked the Tasmanian and W.A. indexes on the AVR. We are clutching at straws here, and would appreciate any possible suggestions any lister may offer. Many thanks, Pam John & Pam Coppock Phone>(07)3264-4453 E-Mail> [email protected]
Hi, There have been some additions to Bellingen Gen Web: 16 October Graham/Ross/Shales/Bradley/Smith/Hoschke/McDonald/Eldridge Tree added 16 October "Magdalen" (About the Ryder/Yabsley families) added to books page. 9 October, 2000 Kinny Family pages added If anyone has a book which is not yet indexed and would like to contribute a book index see http://www.rootsweb.com/~nswbelli/books.html and click on the link to the North Coast Book Index Transcription Project about 10cm / 4in from the top of the page. Let me know which book you would like to do. If anyone has a transcript of a North Coast cemetery I would be very pleased to put it on the site, along with the Bowraville, Dorrigo, Tumbulgum and Fernmount. I will have the site re-indexed so that the yellow search box picks up the names from the Kinny and Graham families. This should be complete by Tuesday afternoon. Cheers Paul
Hi Lee, Limeburners Creek is still around- it runs into the Hastings River only a few Kms north-west of Port Macquarie from the north. As the name suggests, during the convict era here, it was a source of limeburning from the oyster shells in the area (for mortar in the building industry)and even today, there are a number of commercial oyster leases being worked. The creek drains swampy land and even in the 1890s there was only litle grazing done there. A number of ex convicts had land in this region also. Nothing much has changed since 1821.(my compliments to the north shore inhabitants!!!).If you can be more specific. I may be able to help you-can give you some of the landholders, etc. Ian, Port Macquarie ----- Original Message ----- From: Bob & Lee Mills <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, October 15, 2000 5:22 PM Subject: LIMEBURNERS CREEK, CAMDEN HAVEN > Can anyone please tell me about a place in the CAMDEN HAVEN area of NSW called LIMEBURNERS CREEK? Does anyone in the Macksville area have knowledge of: James ST JOHN bc 1866 and his wife Grace BROWN James may have been born in Montreal, Canada, as there seems to be no trace of him in the NSW records. A Montreal researcher has had no luck in Canada either at this stage. It is also possible he was born in England, but it is thought he lived in the Macksville area about the 1930s. What I am really looking for is some sign of James's existence in NSW. Richard Ernest ST JOHN bc 1896 Attended Wolaroi College, Orange, but the records prior to 1926 are not available. Address on his World War I documents was shown as Coonamble. Worked on the building of the North Coast railway - possibly after World War I Member of 1st Australian Light Horse Regiment in World War I Kittredge Charles ST JOHN bc 1900 or Charles Kittredge ST JOHN Apparently a brother of Richard Ernest, who was the son of James and Grace. Richard Ernest ST JOHN had at least two sons: Robert ST JOHN (well-known Sydney QC) David ST JOHN (solicitor in Sydney - previously qualified as a barrister) I think David and his father were farmers in the Macksville area about 1955. They may have had cattle and vegetables. Any help or suggestions would be very much appreciated. Diane
