INVITATION Members of Families that were connected with the northern area of the Berry Estate and surrounding districts in 1901 are invited to a Celebratory Picnic on the Berry Showground on Saturday 12 May 2001. This is to commemorate the picnic held as part of the official NSW State Program when the Government sent 2 train loads of official guests to the Berry Showground, for the trip and picnic. Although this was held the same week as the Federation Celebrations in Sydney the 2001 event will be held 12 May 2001. The Berry and District Historical Society is co-ordinators of the event assisted by local organisations. Perhaps your family would like to assist in mounting a small display with perhaps a small outline of your history and the district to where your families have spread. I am currently calling for expressions of interest and the space available for each family will depend on the number of acceptances. Perhaps your family would like to enter a float in the procession or march as a group under a family banner. maybe even in costume. When surfing Bellingen web sites I came upon a cover illustrated extensive list of publications currently available from the Bellinger Valley Historical Society. To view click the "Society" at: http://www.intercomp.com.au/e-bellingen/index.htm CoastCall - the new Mid-North Coast portal site (covering from Forster/Tuncurry north to Woolgoolga), funded in the main from a $385K federal govt. grant to Southern Cross University, comes online this week. Each areas "Local History" forum section will provide a new resource and opportunity for family historians and researchers. I will post the URL when it becomes available. John Brisbane

Hi All, I have reached a dead end with my BOGLE line and have been trying to find links between her family and the DORROUGHs and the ALCORNs as my grandmother had maintained that her grandmother, Eliza Jane BOGLE (born in abt 1851 in Strabane, County Tyrone) migrated to Australia in abt 1864 to live with relatives - the ALCORNS and DORROUGHS. I am uncertain how Eliza ties into these families but a Martha Jane BOGLE, born in abt 1801 in Strabane, Co. Tyrone and daughter of James BOGLE and Martha HAZELTON married a Matthew DORROUGH in 1828 in Strabane. Martha and Matthew had at least 5 children: James, John, Margaret, Matilda and Elizabeth and emigrated to Australia sometime prior to 1864. The eldest son, James married a Mary Ann ALCORN in N.S.W., Australia in 1864. Furthermore, consent was given for Eliza's marriage to William Charles SHACKEL by Matthew DORROUGH, noted as her guardian since she was under the age of 21. This marriage took place at Mr William ALCORN's Foxground in Kiama. I have run out of clues. I had thought I would find that Martha Jane BOGLE was the sister of Andrew BOGLE (Eliza Jane's father) but nothing suggests this. The DORROUGHs and SHACKEL/LLs moved north to around Murwillumbah, Lismore, Bangalow areas. Names associated with these families around this area are RICE, COOK, SHARMAN, SPEER, and WINDLEY. If anyone is researching these families, I would love to hear from you. Julie Ruzsicska [email protected] http://www.netspace.net.au/~ruzoz/

Afraid you are way too early. First newspaper in the area was founded at Fernmount near Bellingen by Joseph Mackay in 1886 - see the Bellingen GenWeb at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~nswbelli/papers.html Much later there were papers such as the Bowraville Guardian etc. in the Numbucca/Bowraville area. From memory I think they are available at the University of New England Library. You might contact the Nambucca Valley Historical Society whose address is not listed amongst the Hisorical Societies at the GenWeb site but is at: http://www.communityonline.com.au/htmfile/history.htm where you will note there is also a Museum at Bowraville. I am looking for information on Bridget(te) Williams who remarried ?? in the early 1900's. Her maiden name was Harvey. When her first husband John Williams died either late 1890's or early 1900's she then remarried. She had a son John Matthew Williams and they lived in the Armidale area. According to family stories Bridget when married to her first or second husband owned the Tattersalls Hotel in Armidale and also had connections with a horse stud in the area. Can anyone help me with this family? Bridgette's first husband John was in the army when he came out fron England via Rio de Janiero in 1876. Her son John Matthew was born at Rio on the way out and had Rio de Janiero (British Legation) on his birth certificate as his place of birth. This is a branch of my family tree that is at a complete dead end. Bridget was Irish. Can anyone help please? Evon Williams Lemon Tree Passage NSW
