Hi everyone I am looking for information on DOROTHY WHITE (who is my cousin but we always called her Aunt). We lost contact in the 1960's when she living on the Central Coast. She had contacted my mother about some family matters after her sister Ethel died on 4th November 1964 in St Kilda. She said she was married to a Mr NOAKES, Nokes, Okes, ??? Maybe someone can help with the married name. She also said she had children. She also asked Mum about racehorses in Glen Innes - Does this ring a bell with anyone? Dorothy's mother was SARAH WHITE, and her father, we believe, was CHARLES WHITE. Sarah WHITE was born in England in 1898. She came to Australia in about 1906 with her father Charles White and step-mother, Florrie White (nee WARDLE) and lived at "Butter Leaf", Glen Innes between the years 1927 and 1937. Sarah had five (illegit) children: (1)Sarah Ethel White, she was called Ethel but we also knew her as Ciss. She was born in 1914 in Sydney and died in St Kilda in 1964. (2)Frederick J. White was born in Sydney in 1918. We believe Freddy and Dorothy were adopted out together but we cannot find any record of this. (3)Dorothy we believe was born around 1920-25. (4)Alexander born about 1926 and died in 1926. (5)Johney Albert White was born in 1928 at Collaroy. We are searching the WHITE family back to England. Dorothy's children maybe able to help. Can anyone help is locating our lost my cousins. Regards Vicki Please reply to me care of [email protected]

The addresses of most of the local historical societies are on Bellingen Gen Web at http://www.rootsweb.com/~nswbelli/histsoc.html Don't forget you can search the indexes of about 50 books about the North Coast from the yellow box on the Welcome page of Bellingen Gen Web, which incorporates the NSW North coast Book Indexing Project. If any of your family is on the North Coast of NSW you should also look at Bellingen Gen Web: http://www.rootsweb.com/~nswbelli/ . You can search both the site and the Norco mail list. Dear Listers, Does anyone know of any buildings built by the above in the Manning or North Coast Districts? He was born in 1858 at Cundletown (died 1938 Hornsby) and I think he built the Cundletown wharf as well as the Woolgoolga Jetty. CB's father was also a builder - William John Wallace SMITH (1824-1898), who I think built the Taree Methodist Church, Taree Courthouse, Crowdy Head lighthouse amongst other things. I am looking for confirmation that the constructions mentioned were in fact built by the SMITHS, and also if any more of their efforts is known. Does anyone know who built the Trial Bay Gaol? With thanks, Jenny Nancarrow (a SMITH descendant)
