    1. Around the Channon index now on line on Bellingen Gen Web
    2. Paul Hanly (Hotmail)
    3. Hi all, If you have any books about the area and its history or families, I would be grateful if you would consider transcribing or scanning the indexes for the NSW North Coast Book Indexing Project. See www.rootsweb.com/~nswbelli/transcribe.html for the why and how and the links to indexes from the books page www.rootsweb.com/~nswbelli/books.html for examples of the finished product. Thanks to Sherrie Blackman's efforts at transcribing we have just added an index to Around The Channon - A History of its Places and People. The URL is www.rootsweb.com/~nswbelli/indexes/channon.html or you can reach it from the welcome page of Bellingen Gen Web www.rootsweb.com/~nswbelli The Channon is inland of Mullumbimby, about half way to Nimbin. If you try for the page and it's not there yet, don't despair, it is just that you got the email before I finished loading the page. Just wait an hour and check again. Don't forget to hit "Refresh" on your browser. If you could do an index, even if it takes months, it would be a great contribution. If you are going to do one, please let em know so that I can mark it on the books page so that we don't duplicate effort. If you are aware of any books not listed on the Books page, please send me the details. All the best Paul Hanly

    3. Hi all, Is anybody researching the family of Henri Wilhelm BALZER and Eva Catherina MAUS who arrived on the "San Francisco" in Sydney 1852. They settled in the Grafton area and their children in the Lismore and Casino areas. I was given some pages (about the descendants of Charles PRATT and Isabella MCLEOD) from a family history written in the 1980s by Dr John BALZER who lived in Sydney and died in 1992. I would dearly love a copy of the rest! Cheers Jan

    2. June Spooner
    3. Hi everyone, Once again I apologise for making this a blanket search but it is the only way that I can possibly cover all of the areas that I need. I have so far thanks to the kindness of the Australian people found out that Percy Spooner married Agnes Mooney in 1913. But there is also a Percy Spooner who married in 1935 a ANNIE SHARKEY. I know that the Percy who married Agnes is certainly the one I need but I am interested in knowing who the Percy was who married Annie Sharkey in 1935 all of this is in NSW Percy and Agnes had a daughter named Jessie who married a Joseph SIXSMITH in 1935. Is anyone researching this name, if so I would appreciate it if you would please contact me. My best wishes to you all June.

    1. My research families
    2. Mim
    3. I am researching the families of John & Eliza FORD who moved to the Grafton area in the early 1870s. They had 13 children all up and I am most willing to share my research with those who'd like to share theirs. Also researching the STARR families of Australia. Particularly that of Edmund STARR and Mary Anne STARR who were the first Starr marriage in Australia in December 1838 at Heber Chapel, Cobbitty, NSW. I have 7000 connected persons on my database and am very interested in all the Starr families who came to Australia, particularly those whose ancestors were from East Sussex. The other family in the northern rivers area with whom I have connections is that of John David FARQUHAR and his wife Rhoda Jane WEBB who were married at Stockton, near Newcastle, in 1843. They had 11 children, mostly female and the associated names there are PATEMAN; CREIGHTON; FORD; POYNTER; PETERSEN; JONES; SWITZER; DALSON and BAKER. Would love to exchange info with any who may be connected and am most willing to help anyone where possible. Sincerely, Min Qld. Aust.

    2. June Spooner
    3. Hi everyone, I hope that you can forgive me for doing a blanket search, only I do not know which part of Australia PERCY SPOONER went to so I felt it best to try to cover as much ground as possible. My name is June Spooner and I am researching the name of the man above. Percy was born in approx., 1883-5 in Nottingham, England, He was born in the Edwin St., St. Ann's Well Road area and his parents were. George Spooner and Fanny Ward. Unfortunately, after leaving England for Australia, nothing much was ever heard from Percy and so contact was lost. If anyone has any information on him I would be most obliged if you would contact me. My best wishes to you all over there in the warm weather >From June in a very cold and snowy Ontario.

    2. Paul Hanly (Hotmail)
    3. Another place you can search the archives is from: http://archiver.rootsweb.com/ and then type AUS-NSW-NORCO-L as the list name. If you haven't ever searched the archives you really should. Do a separate search for each surname and each town you are interested in. Copy and paste all the addresses of people who have posted items of interest to you, then you can contact them direct (if they still have the same email address!) The NSW North Coast Book Indexing Project is also part of Bellingen Gen Web and if you search the Bellingen Gen Web site you are automatically searching the on line book indexes. The search box is the yellow on a few inches below the picture of the Bellinger River. If you have any books about the area and its history or families, I would be grateful if you would consider transcribing or scanning the indexes for the NSW North Coast Book Indexing Project See www.rootsweb.com/~nswbelli/transcribe.html for the why and how and the links to indexes from the books page www.rootsweb.com/~nswbelli/books.html for examples of the finished product. 3. Hi everyone I am trying to trace any descendants of (and any info on): * Percival Hilliar and May Matilda Catherine Hilliar (nee LEES). They were married in 1902, and had a daughter, May, in 1902. Percival was the son of Susan Saunders and John Hilliar - (m 1859). * Myrtle B (nee Lees) and Frederick FLORY - they were married in 1917 (I have no other details); * William S Lees and Rita A Lees (nee Lavis) - married 1923; * Marjory (nee Lees) and Thomas Gardner (m 1911) * Gladys Ivy (nee Lees) and Percy J Paine (married 1917). * Laura Alice (nee Lees) and Clarence L Hancock (m 1911) - the children I have for them are Lester D (born 1912, at Ballina); and Clarence G, (born 1915 - Ballina) * May, Myrtle, William, Marjory, Gladys and Laura (as well as James Harold) were the children of Thomas Henry Lees and Catherine Lees (nee Bridge). I believe that they would all have been on the North Coast - I suspect Percival Hilliar is the Percival Hilliar mentioned in this quote: "Condong Public School, in their Centenary booklet (1988) gives praise and commendation to their longest serving principal, Mr. Percival Hilliar. He conducted swimming and life-saving classes in the Tweed River for residents and pupils of Condong for 27 years.
