    3. When searching for any information try the Google search engine www.google.com or similar. When you open the page in your browser, bookmark the site (by clicking Favourites > Add To Favourites in Internet Explorer) For information on the Australian Blue Cattle Dog I searched those words and there appear to be excellent results. Many of the sites will also have a links page with more relevant links. To see the search results for Australian Blue Cattle Dog see http://www.google.com/search?q=Australian+Blue+Cattle+Dog&btnG=Google+Search Other Search engines (or sources of search engines) include: http://www.topclick.com/ http://www.searchenginecolossus.com/ http://www.metacrawler.com/index.html http://www.anzwers.com.au/cgi-bin/print_search.pl http://au.altavista.com/s?r=1 Alta Vista Australia http://new.ozsearch.com.au/cgi-bin/search/ Try searching a combination of a surname and a placename. Have a look at Alta Vista's advanced search which allows you to define the search more closely. 3. Hi Derek The entry for John May is very short: "Mary (Smith, daughter of Harriet and Thomas), who was baptised Chiurch of England, married John May on the Nambucca in 1871 in a Wesleyan service." Mary was the sister of Isabella, who married William Argent - it is the Argents and the Ballards that I have been researching for a friend. On page 43, John May is mentioned as a shipwright from Devon who came to the nambucca as a selector but reverted to his trade. He worked for the shipbuilder John Campbell Stuart, on the Royal Tar (598 tons), launched 1873? or 1876?, "the largest-colonial built vessel". On page 119-120, it is George May who is listed as a shipwright working on the Royal Tar, who came from the Macleay for that purpose. The only source of "Valley of the Crooked River" that I know of is the Nambucca Shire Council, which commissioned the writing of the book. They still have copies (about $45, I think). 3. I assume the site was Bellingen Gen Web which incorporates the NSW North Coast Book Indexing Project. If you have a book about people, places events or history relevant to the North Coast of NSW (Hunter to the Qld border, please: 1. Check the books page http://www.rootsweb.com/~nswbelli/books.html to see whether it is listed and has a link to an index. 2. If there is a link but no index, please consider copy typing or scanning the index (or contents or chapter headings if there is no index) so it can be added to the on line indexes. See The Transcription page http://www.rootsweb.com/~nswbelli/transcribe.html for more details on subscribing. Email [email protected] with the name of the book you are indexing so that we can avoid duplication of effort. 3. If the book is not list, please send details of title, author, publisher, date of publication, price availability, no of pages, no of maps, no of photos to [email protected] and consider indexing it for us (see 2 above. With over 200 list members if everyone did one book think of the resource we will have created together!!! 3. Dear Jocelyn The passage that mentions Edward Cory is not long, so I will type it out in full for you. "The first <pastoralist>, James Taylor, took up a run, TRY Station, between Warrell Creek and Taylors Arm in 1841. The coincidence of the name and the location suggest that Taylors Arm owed its name to him. In 1844 Charles Ducat, son of a Macleay pastoralist held TRY station. By the next year it was in the hands of Edward Gostwyck Cory, a Hunter River land owner and early New England pastoralist. Cory still held it in 1846 and James Taylor, who must have fallen upon difficult times, was Cory's overseer. TRY station was abandoned by 1847. R. G. Massie commented that it had been 'deserted from the general want of fresh water, and the bad nature of the country.' Apparently, Edward Gostwyck Cory is mentioned on page 31. I would be very grateful if someone could look this up for me. I hold a lot of information about the Cory family in the Hunter Valley but was unaware of any connection to Nambucca. I am particularly interested in finding people who worked for the family in the 1800s. Cheers, Jocelyn Lloyd
