    1. Sellings / Chelman / Bibby / Baylis
    2. Tony & Kylie Hoschke
    3. Hi all, my apologies for my haste in posting my interests in these families with no years or places, I've had my fingers rapped by Paul (lol), so here is a little more info... CHELMAN - mainly late 1800's to present in the Telegraph Point area, and spreading up the coast to Coffs Harbour. SELLINGS - late 1800's to present in the Tamworth, Quirindi and Bellingen / Coffs Hbr areas. BIBBY / DUESBURY / BAYLIS Once again late 1800's to present, reaching from Binnaway / western NSW to the north east coast. There is a connection with a Henry Baylis, who was a police magistrate that was shot by mad dog Morgan the bushranger... Any help in finding details of these families would be greatly appreciated, TIA Tony & Kylie Hoschke PO Box 1594 Coffs Hbr 2450 [email protected]

    2. Donna Williams
    3. Hi List, I am researching the family of Mark HANCOCK & his wife Isabella HANNAM. Mark is recorded in one reference as living at what is now called Mobbs Bay (South Ballina) at about 1854. It would have had to be between 1857 & 1860. In 1861 he purchased a property at Kilgin, near Woodburn. Does anyone have access to any references on pioneers or school centenaries etc that may refer to the Hancocks in these places after 1857? I would be very interested in any reference to Hancocks at Kilgin. Mark had 3 sons who were prolific breeders. I am particularly interested in any found at Kilgin, Woodburn, Germans Creek, Pimlico, Empire Vale or Ballina. I am also interested in those a liitle further afield. I would be delighted to hear from anyone with any information/interest. Cheers, Donna.

    1. New Index on Bellingen Gen Web
    2. Paul Hanly (Hotmail)
    3. Hi all, I have just finished adding the index to "Centenary 1890 - 1990 Green Hill Public School" which was contributed by John Nance. The index should be up loaded by 5 pm Thursday 7 June at Bellingen Gen Web http://www.rootsweb.com/~nswbelli/ Look under "What's New" or check item 74 on the Books page. The reindexing of the site won't be done by the spiders for about a week, so until then you will have to search the page itself by looking at it or by using the Edit > Find function in your browser. After that a search for a Surname should return the Green Hill index if that name is on the page. By the way, I suggest when searching that you only search the Surname eg Mitchell because if the index is Mitchell, Alf a search for Alf Mitchell might not find Mitchell, Alf. Similarly you need to check spelling variants. If you have any books about the North Coast area and its history or families, I would be grateful if you would consider transcribing or scanning the indexes for the NSW North Coast Book Indexing Project See www.rootsweb.com/~nswbelli/transcribe.html for the why and how and the links to indexes from the books page www.rootsweb.com/~nswbelli/books.html for examples of the finished product. Email me if you have a book that you can provide the index for. All the best Paul Hanly

    2. Corinne Thompson
    3. Hello Leona, No, your grandfather would not have needed to be nationalised as he was already a British citizen, as we all were in those days. Re his service records ...... if you have contacted the authorities here ...... and they do not have any records for him ...... it is possible that he went back to England and enlisted there (a lot did). Or the family may have came out and he stayed behind ...... and came out after the war. And no, he wouldn't have had the same service number, even if he enlisted from Australia both times. Kindest Regards ...... Corinne in Melbourne. > Hello, > I have gradually found some of my brick walls, but I have a couple more I need > some advise on. > The major one I have just unravelled was my grandfathers birth, the whole > family always thought he was born on the ship on the way out from England, but > after two years of searching I have just received his birth cert and he was > born in England,so the next hurdle is finding out when the family came out,my > information I have it would of been around 1912/1914, my grandfather would of > been about 14 so would he need to be nationalised, and if so where would I find > this. > My biggest obstacle is I have I have his Royal Navy war records from WW2,but > I'm sure he was in the first world war,as he put his age up(family rumour). > But I have photos from the first war and I have a newspaper article about the > ship Wollongong comes home from the second world war and mentioned in it is my > grandfather and it states in it that he was in the first world war, and his > daugthers have told me he was in the first war.The thing is I can't find any > trace of him in the first world war, would he have the same service number in > the first war as in the second war,and I have a feeling that as he had to put > his age up to get in he might of used a different name (anything is possible > with him) if so how do I find out.Any advise would be greatly appreciated. > Leona > Brisbane > > > ==== AUS-NSW-NORCO Mailing List ==== > >

    3. Hello, I have gradually found some of my brick walls, but I have a couple more I need some advise on. The major one I have just unravelled was my grandfathers birth, the whole family always thought he was born on the ship on the way out from England, but after two years of searching I have just received his birth cert and he was born in England,so the next hurdle is finding out when the family came out,my information I have it would of been around 1912/1914, my grandfather would of been about 14 so would he need to be nationalised, and if so where would I find this. My biggest obstacle is I have I have his Royal Navy war records from WW2,but I'm sure he was in the first world war,as he put his age up(family rumour). But I have photos from the first war and I have a newspaper article about the ship Wollongong comes home from the second world war and mentioned in it is my grandfather and it states in it that he was in the first world war, and his daugthers have told me he was in the first war.The thing is I can't find any trace of him in the first world war, would he have the same service number in the first war as in the second war,and I have a feeling that as he had to put his age up to get in he might of used a different name (anything is possible with him) if so how do I find out.Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
