    3. There is a parish maps program which has images of historical parish maps. It is a difficult and uncertain way to find a property, particularly as under old system title the mortgagor was registered as owner, so many properties appear to be owned by banks. Still I have found a number of properties from the late 1800's on such parish maps. See: http://www.lands.nsw.gov.au/MapsAndPhotos/ParishMaps/default.htm Cheers Paul ----- Original Message ----- From: "Beryl Whatson" <whatson2@telpacific.com.au> To: <AUS-NSW-NORCO-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, January 19, 2005 3:43 PM Subject: [NORCO] Verge property > In March, I will be visiting Kempsey on my way through to Queensland. > > My ancestors Josiah Williams and his son in law, James O'Connell, were tennant farmers on a property owned by [John] Verge, at Austral Eden, in 1867, Josiah probably from the early 1850s. > > On my trip through Kempsey, I would like to locate this property, with a view to taking some photographs, even if it is only from the gate. 3. Hi Yvonne, When speaking to one of our family members tonight, I was told there is a printed book entitled "The Descendants of William Ramsay." In that publication there is a Catherine Ramsay b.29 Jan 1849, d. 23 Aug 1932 who married a John McLeod on 15 Sep 1878. John was born 13 Dec 1871(? - this is obviously wrong). No place names, unfortunately. BTW, the original William Ramsay (of book title fame) was born c1778 and d. 9 Jul 1841. He married Janet White in 1802 who was b. 1779 and d.7 Oct 1854. I was given this information tonight over the telephone. I checked the State Libraries of NSW and QLD, and National Library without success. Maybe it is a privately printed family history, or maybe the title is different. If you care to contact me outside of this newsgroup, I will give you another Ramsay contact in Armidale who is very happy to assist. Regards....Rex Toomey Port Macquarie NSW

    3. In March, I will be visiting Kempsey on my way through to Queensland. Can anyone suggest how I can find it's location, is there any place where I could get maps or street names. Anywhere or anyone in Austral Eden who could help me. Thank you in advance for any suggestions. Beryl, on the Central Coast.

    1. GREENTREE Family and Thomas DODD
    2. bill moyle
    3. Dear List I have been researching the GREENTREE family history. Sarah Jane GREENTREE married Thomas Dodd at Tamworth in 1878 and had seven children with him, including Arthur, born at Warialda in 1884. Sarah died at Inverell on 10 February 1942. I have been unable to trace Arthur DODD through the NSW Government Index of BDMs but I think that there was an Arthur DODD who was Superintendent of the Ambulance Service in Kyogle during the 1940s and perhaps earlier. That Arthur had a son Tom, born probably in the 1920s, who did a lot of work for the Kyogle Swimming Club in the 1940s and later. Tommy is mentioned in the book "Sporting Heroes of Kyogle". I wonder if anyone who knew the Kyogle family of Tommy DODD can tell me whether his father, Arthur, is the same man, or belongs to the same family as, the Arthur DODD who was the son of Thomas DODD and Sarah Jane GREENTREE? 1. Ryerson Indexers wanted - "Grafton Daily Examiner"
    2. John Graham
    3. We have recently indexed quite a large holding from SAG of this paper for 1997, and would now like one or more locals to step forward to: 1. take on the indexing of the current issues, and 2. fill in the missing dates for 1997 (and other years if they so desire). As this is a daily paper, it may be that two or three indexers, working as a team, would be better able to cover the current issues. The indexers should be locals with access to the printed paper, as we have found from past experience that the website is not updated regularly. If you are interested, please contact me off-list. If anyone attends the meetings of the Clarence River Historical Society, would you mind mentioning this at the next meeting - maybe some society members not on this mailing list would be interested. 1. Ryerson Indexers Wanted
    2. John Graham
    3. The team creating the Ryerson Index currently has two vacancies, due to the inability of the lady indexing the "Coffs Coast Advocate" and the "Don Dorrigo Gazette" to continue. If you receive either (or both) of these papers regularly, and would like to join the Ryerson team, please contact me off-list. We prefer to have local indexers for these papers, as the CCA website is very unreliable, and the DDG doesn't have a website that we know of. The CCA has about 15 notices per week, and the DDG considerably less. We would also like to include the Bellingen "Courier-Sun" in Ryerson, so if anyone with regular access to this paper is interested, please contact me. John

    2. Sharon E Jameson
    3. Hello everyone, I am new to this list and hopefully on the right one! While researching my Glass / Davidson family in Scotland I found a monumental inscription stating that one member of the family, James DAVIDSON died in NSW in August 1869 at "Boemby Creek" This I assume is the same place as Boambee Creek. James is the son of John Davidson and Elizabeth McGrigor, tenant farmers in Strathgirnock, Glenmuick, Aberdeenshire. The stone also states that James died by accidental drowning. So far I have not been able to locate a death for James. I was wondering if anyone on this list is connected with this family, or can point me in the right direction as to finding / obtaining a death certificate or an inquest into the death. Any information would be most appreciated. Sincerely Sharon (Penrith NSW)

    3. Not my wife's MacDonald family as far as I can tell, Les, but the forenames in her family keep cropping up in recent postings, and there is an NZ connection in her wider MacDonald family. Our interest is in the ancestors/descendants of Joseph ALEXANDER and Christina MacDONALD in the Murwillumbah area C1900, Joseph being Irish and employed for time as a police constable, and Christina being daughter of Colin MacDonald and Ann(e) Cameron of Palmers Island and later the Brunswick River. 3. Hi, Does anyone have any contact details for living relatives of the Clancy's from Booligal and Dorrigo (no matter how distant)? It is most likely they would be living in Comboyne, Dorrigo, Bellingen, Hillston, Birmingham Gardens areas. 2 names connected by marriage to these Clancy's are the McGibbon's and Giddins families. I believe all the Clancy's below are now deceased. The ones I know of are Pauline (nee McGibbon), died 1989 at Eastwood, Sydney and Reginald, died 1984 at Stockton.
